If you value the mod maker as a person then why do you need to change their personal preferences at all?

You aren't making any sense.

Look who cares if they made her fairer. Don't download the mod.

No need to complain about others preferences as long as they aren't forcing them on you.

Good point ^^

I personally have to say that I felt a little anger when I saw that mod,
If that is true, then you sir need to get a life. Big time.
I felt anger because the only black Dragon Age character is being turned white so ... I need to get a life?

----
anyway,
I think I just reacted that way because I find it to be so ...sad that
so few see the beauty of dark skin. Those character alterations mostly
include very pale skin...
Black? She is
antivan/spanish, how is that black to you and WHY do you care? Whats
your problem with a character turned either white or black? Why should
one care about this?

As you can see the problem is, you care
about people being white/black thus teh issue of race is born. The
majority of the community does not give a damn and you know why? Because
we DO NOT CARE about race.
You certainly have issues, why so emotional?
I
can only repeat myself... I am not talking about race here... Maybe
that was not very clear, when I talk about the 'black character turned
white' I mean the dark skinned character... damn english is not my first
language is there such a big difference? Yeah she is antican/spanish I
don't care, that's not what I mean, I think you're misunderstanding me.
All   I    say is that it makes me sad that so few people find dark skin to be as aesthetic as I find it to be.
Wasnt emotional ^^ just wanted to point out the logic behind "racism", if nobody cares about the color of skin or whatever, there is no issue.

Many people are more attracted to certain ethnicities, whether it be different from their own, or the same. I don't think that is really racist, as people cannot force themselves to be physically attracted to someone.

Oh, and I prefer the original to any of the modded versions.

Isabella looks the same except for her skin colour, so you are saying a darker a character that still looks the same is an acceptable reason to not be attracted anymore?

right...

Are you really that dense or is your is it your agenda to deprive people of their freedom to choose?
You can't grasp that people are attracted to other people for many reasons and race may or may not be one of them?

I'm attracted to caucasian and asian women more than other ethnicities, but I don't exclude the others.

I GUESS THAT MEANS I'M A RACIST!

Same. I tried to mod her myself and looked at all the other versions but in a way they all don't fit her.
They only thing I don't like is the piercing (and to a lesser extent, the big earrings).

Isabela was not "black" in origins or da2. She is rivaini. The closest earth allegory is Spain.

Also, her skin tone looks weird. Nothing to do with her "blackness" and everything to do with her looking weird in comparison to origins.

*re-reads post* No. I didn't say that at all. I'm sure you can put your imagination to better use though.

^_^

You continue to make the assertion that changing Isabela's appearance to something that is more appealing to the modder is an amoral atrocity. I disagree with you. At the end of the day, this mod is no different than mods that made Wynne look younger, or Zevran scruffier/more masculine, or Morrigan prettier. Afterall, as you pointed out, it is just a color change.

There are plenty of real injustices in the world that need righting. Perhaps you could strive towards correcting those, instead of railing against something so inconsequential.

To add to my last post (I was on my cell phone waiting for a friend), Rivain is closer to Spain than Africa, or any other place. Isabela's new skin tone (the CGI version/promo version) was closer to a Spanish hue than the sun-burnt cookie version in the game. It has nothing to do with her ethnicity and more to do with Bioware being unable to keep her from looking like she has skin cancer from too much sun.

And if the OP is trying to argue that someone is racist for not liking her skin tone, they need to have their head examined. Isabela's default skin tone does not fit her character at all. She looks... wrong. Especially in comparison to the promo shots and teasers.

It's the same thing when someone talks about the Elves in DA2 looking weird as opposed to Origins. Are they racist for not liking the new design overhaul, or is it because Isabela is the closest thing to a black character that Dragon Age has ever seen?

It runs a bit deeper than that, for gamers to have a perfect game the characters must be white?

You are the only person saying so. You also keep saying there is some deep underlying meaning/problem behind using those mods, yet your reasoning is shallow at best. You said that people can have different tastes so whats wrong with preferring Isabela with a lighter skin or different hair color? I happened to change Isabela's hair so now, according to your logic, I'm discriminatory?

CRISIS1717 wrote...

...but thinking "you know what
would make this game better? if Isabella was white" seems more like
discriminatory behaviour to me.

Again, that is another (false) assumption you have assigned to the authors of said mods.

How about you stop bring your political views on the forums. They don't belong here.
If
you don't like the game then complain in the proper forum, or simply
stop playing and leave everyone else to be the terrible, unjust dregs
that we are.

Sorry this is a forum for dicussion, it seems you are the one that has a problem with the adult conversation being broached here, if I am entitled not to use the mod because I don't like it you are entitled not to comment if you do not like the topic.

Instead of apologizing and changing the subject, why don't you attempt to answer my points?

I can't really think of anything good to say about this mod, apparently people couldn't stand the skin colour of Isabella so much they made a mod to make her pale white with a variety of different hair colours.

Mods like these really make me lose faith in humanity...

The only people that disgust me more than racists (whether it's KKKers or Louis Farrakhan) are those that are in a rush to be offended at the slightest thing.  Grow up, you're the other half of the reason racism is still so prevalent in this country.

Someone may have pointed this out before, but i think Crisis is a bit crazy, she was originally light / fair skinned before bioware changed her, how is changing her back to how she originally was, being racist or whatever?

Personally, I agree wholeheartedly with the OP and most people that have replied to this topic who are saying that the OP is reading too much into it are perhaps not reading into it enough. On the one hand, I think society needs to ease it with being politically correct and recognizing issues when they're there, but where are the mods to give Anders, Fenris, Merrill, Aveline, etc. darker skin?

You guys need to understand the real implications here. You might not think it's racist to to be, "Yeah, I want to have this mod with Isabela having lighter skin; big deal, wanna fight about it?" But look at the message this is sending out. "Isabela would be so much better if only she had lighter skin." Being brutally honest, in this day and age, characters of color in most entertainment are generally considered the "token character of color." Notice that Isabela is the only character on the roster with darker skin, and apparently that was unacceptable enough to warrant such a popular mod to "normalize" this party member.

Some people these days are too rigid and quick to call the "racism" card, I agree. But acknowledge these little subconscious, unspoken messages that are communicated. Don't even attempt to say that there's nothing there and people are reading too far into it, because there IS something there. The only reason why it's ambiguous is because the mod author didn't flat out say, "This mod is because people with dark skin suck." You guys need to not let your attempts to halt hyper-political-correctness get in the way of acknowledging when there's a negative message being sent out when there IS one. And if someone feels that this message is being communicated to them, then it's there.

Also, the post before the previous post makes one of the stupidest claims I have ever read. /end thread participation
