I was tempted to use it but I am unsure if I will.
I mean, without Friendly Fire, the game is a lot easier, right?
If you use a mod to remove Friendly Fire on Nightmare, is it still Nightmare? It does make the game a lot easier, doesn't it?

yes a lot easier. it basically becomes the same playability as hard.

To be fair, it is entirely viable to play on Nightmare with things that inherently ignore FF that perhaps shouldn't, like Chain Lightning.

Mobs still have more HPs on Nightmare as compared to Hard. It depends on how much "skill" you think is involved with using an activated ability only to watch the computer AI run one of your ranged party members through the path at the last possible second.
I wish there was a behavior type called "Don't %&^*# get near me!"

It's easier but I am doing a play-through now on NM with no FF because I already did an unmoded play-through on NM and now I'd like to mix up party members and have them not get slaughtered by my insane 2H damage. It just provides another option for party members since Fenris and Issa will get torn apart in an unmoded play-through.

Of course it is easier. Put two 2H warriors in your party, put chain lightning in your mage's tactices and watch mobs dissappear.
I wish we could just turn off warriors' auto-attack FF.

I would like to see Friendly Fire optional to all difficulties. It adds certain element to game-play, some would call a tactical element.
To answer the question: No, any mod is not Nightmare by definition. Nightmare + Nightmare - but not Nightmare.

I feel guilty turning FF off.

Playing without FF would be a joke. It's the only thing that makes "nightmare mode" actually somewhat challenging.

I recently completed a NM playthrough with FF on, and now I've started my next playthrough with it turned off.
Yes it's easier without it on. However the problem with FF is that it essentially makes all your Melee Companions useless. One Whirlwind from my Hawke would instantly kill any party members. So, you have to trade story(using the party of your choice) for gameplay(using all ranged companions.) Melee need talents to negate AoE Damage taken. I think it's understandable for ranged classes to be effected by FF.
