This is bothering me way more than it probably should, but I'm gay, so it's really hitting a nerve.

On poor Anders' wikia page, someone got the idea that his sexual orientation was somehow "subjective" and he was either totally homosexual or totally heterosexual based on Hawke's gender. (Don't get me started on the Kinsey scale.) It's resulted in an edit war with a few posters implying that he's "normal", i.e. straight, if Hawke is female, and he "becomes" bi only if Hawke is male.

This has started a huge stupid debate. Obviously the guy swings both ways, but for whatever reason, this is getting some people very upset, whereas they apparently don't care about the other five bisexual LIs. I can't help thinking it's because he's a regular old human male, as opposed to an elf, or a girl.

I've also heard on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS now that Justice somehow "turned him gay." I don't think I need to even point out how ridiculous this is, nevermind chronologically inaccurate.

tl;dr Mr. Gaider, could you please state for the record that being possessed does not "turn you gay" and that Anders likes whomever he likes, regardless of Hawke's genitalia? You'd think this would be common sense, but apparently not. Thank you for any insight you can provide!

Sorry in advance for the rant, I'm just weary of him catching so much flak for something that isn't even a huge deal in Thedas.

Does It really matter? you can have sexy time with him as a male or female why do you care?

This is ridiculous to say the least. The rant was not needed but it's good to have it brought to attention.

I care because there seem to be quite a few fans out there who are incredibly offended by the idea that he's bisexual. As if it even matters! Just on these forums alone I've seen posts complaining that there aren't any "normal, straight" characters for them to romance, and it's starting to really get under my skin.

Oh dear. I feel sorry for the development team. They probably saw this storm brewing a while ago, and kept on trucking anyway for the sake of the fans.

Jenifer wrote him in DA II. Maybe she'd be the one to ask?

But Mr. Gaider has BioWare's 3rd-best facial hair.

I've never seen her post on the forums, is why I put it to Gaider's attention, but I'd love to hear what she has to say, if she sees fit to comment!

Agree with OP pretty much, The way I figure Anders is bi if your Hawke is a fem and gay if it's a he. However, even if that's not exactly right, who cares? I'm pretty amazed at the upset attitude displayed at the mere thought of any character in the game being gay or bi. They keep bringing up the false notion that your Hawke is being "forced" into a gay relationship , when nothing could be further from the truth. Despite their protestations to the contrary ("I'm no homophobe, BUT ..."), it's coming across to me a lot of the people complaining about it are having problems because "teh gay is icky".

I don't think she's very active. She's posted quite recently, actually, but she only has one forum friend. Which is very frustrating. I'm trying to collect all the writers, but I'm too intimidated to add her.

Being offended that he's bisexual is ridiculous. However, if you play Awakening and DA2 as a female, there's nothing at all to suggest that he's anything but heterosexual. So it comes down to people thinking that his sexuality is a game mechanic and not a characterization choice. And homophobia.

For the record, I am mega-bummed that he doesn't tell Lady Hawke about Karl. Mine would have given him a bi-five and it would make the entire Tranquility quest so much more meaningful.

You know, i'll probably get a lot of grief for saying this but maybe it's not the developers place to really enter into this debate? fact of the matter is, bioware was trying to do something different and reach out to other demographics.

some people will ****** and scream no matter what because apparently, giving something to someone else takes away from them. I don't quite understand the concept myself other than maybe they just like to make themselves miserable.

they chose to do something they knew would upset at the very least, a small but incredibly loud and annoying group of people, and the community will make of it what it will. i don't really think it's their place to say "now kiddos, play nicely."

even if you got the answer you were looking for that isn't going to stop trolls from editting a wiki.

Well (these are nit-picky things, yes, but they're there if you want to see them), he has a few off-color banters with Nathaniel, and expressing an interest in women doesn't mean you're actually interested in them. I think it's clear that the way Anders interacts with his environment in Awakening is largely a defense mechanism.

Same here Surely, I wish he would have told my F!Hawke as well. I think Bioware did a wonderful thing with the sexualities of the characters and I was happy to see all options for all sexualities.

These boards are getting more than just into heated debates, some of the stuff said is outrightly offensive and inflammatory.

Can we all not just get a long and discuss things without tearing apart the players and remember that this is a game and we are supposed to be having fun?

Im gonna try that one...
'Justice turned me gay'. Lol

I guess the reason the dev's tried to make Anders Sexuality Subjective, is because.

1. A Girl wont want to romance a gay guy.
2. A Gay Guy wont want to Romance a Straight Guy... (obviously the dev's have not got a clue what goes on in the minds of gay guys...)

The dev's tried to make it appeal to everyone, and to do that, they tried to maintain shades of grey opposed to definitive black and white, straight and gay.

Instead, they made
'Anders is Losely Bi' if your male,
and
'Anders is straight if your female'

I too disagree with the whole Shades of Grey approach.
If the characters are being wrote to be romancable, then for the love of god, will the Writers please commit to a path, make Anders gay or straight, and commit to it.

Its like their scared to create a 'gay character', instead they wana make a Bi-Sexual guy who swings both ways, because they think that will please both sides of the fence.
