I like both and the best are,

Bethany Circle Mage and Carver Grey Warden

Carver .. I do not like him. He is annoying and always thinks he is better than hawke and can blame him for every crap that happens to him. Bethany was sweet, tough. I wanted to protect her and because of her I sided with the mages. I did not care for Carver whereas I really did for Bethany. Hope she's coming back somehow!

I might not like Carver, (why the hell does he not like mages, the weirdo?!?!?!), and I'd much to prefer to have Bethany if it was REAL LIFE. But Carver's more interesting and I like his flirting with Merrill. Sooo adorables. But annoying since I romance her.

We got something in common, protective of our younger sisters and attached to Bethany because of the way Hawke is towards her

And the same reason some people like carver is the same reason I hate him.

Carver provides much more interesting story possibilities. Yes, you want to smack him upside the head and often, but that's part of the point of who he is as a character. He's in the shadow of Hawke, the only non-mage child, and so believes himself to be the unfavorite of the family. He wants to find his own path, one where he doesn't have the specter of his older sibling hanging over him. He wants to carve his own path. (And I'm sure that was intentional on BioWare's part)

Bethany is sweet and all, but provides little in the way of conflict. She just stands there and nods and agrees. Conflict is more interesting - a character who always agrees with what you do is little more than wallpaper, in my opinion.

In real life, I would probably prefer Bethany, but for me, the story with Carver has more meat.

Bethany. Hands down. I stopped being forgiving about Carver's {take your pick of bad word}y crapness after he brought up dead Bethany. Right after complaining about helping MOM out... Selfish, jealous ******.

Originally I liked Bethany more, but after having Carver rejoin me in the final moments as a grey warden and do the Brothers Hawke fist bump in that badass warden armor, I have decided I like that story overall better.

I like Carver. He seems more like a real brother. Although I don't have a sister in real life, Bethany seems boring. I never used her in my party once I had another mage. Maybe I'm just a jerk but I got along with Carver's personality very well.

His and Hawke's sibling dynamic is much more interesting then Bethany's.

Bethany by a million miles. Carver isn't bad either, but you don't feel as inclined to be a "big brother/sister" around him like you do with Bethany which makes him feel more like another companion rather than a sibling.

Carver. He's the only one who doesn't go on about how wonderful you are.

And the Sibling Rivalry is much more compelling than the unquestioning and bland sister (except if you turn her into a Warden, then she gets a little pissed at least)

 I'm an eldest sibling IRL. I don't need your kind of crap in my games too, Carver. 

Bethany, on the hand, is the sweetheart little sister you want to protect (although my actual sister and brother seem to have those roles backwards - must be an age thing). It gets even better if she joins the Wardens and then comes back at the end to melt faces.

Bethany hands down, carver was just rude to my mage trying to be nice him. i hope we can have back as full companions if they survived i want bethany at my side when i take down the chantry with hawke

Bethany. While she might be a bit shallow, Carver is extremely two-dimensional and they beat you over the head with the sibling rivalry thing every time he opens his mouth. I found it incredibly annoying.
