After cutting down Orsino i needed a hug.

This scene really tugged at my heart strings.

I don't see carver doing that.

Bring Carver with you to the deeproads with Anders in your party. You'll see it.

He didn't hug me after i cut down orsino, the scene never came up.

Ofcourse, not He's a big tuff Warden by then. I ment he hugs you in the deep roads.  He does hug you in the game.

I tried it, took him down with anders and made him a warden, at no point does he hug hawke. Hawke has carvers arm over his/her shoulder but that's just to steady him because he's sick.

Anyway, i'm not saying carver's a bad character. If you make him a warden he develops quite well and i respect him. I just personally prefer bethany. But carver's alright as a character and i'd rather he be in the game than never included.

I like them both, like i like vanila and chocolate, i just grab vanila first. :D

I prefer Bethany. She does seem a little less fleshed out than Carver, but I enjoyed her sweet temperament and personality. She didn't necessarily always agree with what I did, but she could rationalize it and express her dislike in a polite manner. Not to mention her and all of my companions seemed to get along pretty decently (hell Isabela loves teasing her much to Hawke's annoyance). Also I left her behind in Act 1 so when the Templars forced her into the Circle it become my Hawke's motivation to free and protect his little sister to the best of his ability. Thus siding with the mages seemed like the logical choice. Carver however just annoys the hell out of me as my snarky femhawke mage said once "The second child act is getting pretty old" "you're just a lazy brat with a chip on his shoulder." If he hadn't been annoyed by ABSOLUTELY everything I did it probably wouldn't have bothered me so much. I was nice to someone he would complain, I was mean to someone he would complain, I made a joke HE COMPLAINED!! It got really old really fast.

Its hard to pick one. yeah caver was a dick but I can understand his reason. its ahrd to be noticed when youy have a borther/sister like hawke. Betheny is more suportive and relys on you to take the attention away from her. I found her sweet and loyal. its actualy hard to get her to rival. I felt more protective of her than carver because Carver is a warrior and some one who wants to fight for him self. I was actual proud of him when he joined the templars. My mage always said good things to him when they reunited. and now at the end he is in my party. bethany I had join the wardens. I think it made her strong and more independent knowing she can not get taken by templars. its hard to pick one as each has their best features.

I haven't played through with Carver yet, but he just looks like he would be annoying. Bethany is pleasant enough. No complaints there.

Bethany. My rogue Hawke listened to her mother and left Bethany behind, only to witness her being made a prisoner of the circle.

My mage Hawke couldn't believe that her own brother joined the templars. Voluntarily. That was way more than sibling rivalry, that was a slap in the face, outright hatred and disdain. I can understand him feeling overshadowed, being angsty, wanting to do his own thing, but joining the very organization that would love nothing more than seeing his sister (and his dead twin sister) imprisoned and treated like they are a plague amongst the people is way beyond simple rivalry, or getting out from under her shadow.

Now granted, the mages in Kirkwall seem to be 85 % blood-mages/possessed, but neither of his sisters ever showed any inclination toward cuddling up with a demon.

You didn't also add Anders to the group to go to the deep roads apparently or that wouldn't have happened by what I read. First playthrough, I left her at home so she went Circle when I got back. My mage playthrough, I might make Carver a Warden by bringing Anders hoping there is some kind of redemption for Carver being what Aveline properly described him as.

It's just so hard to deal with emo-boy. And actually LOL when the Ogre slams him to the ground in the opening on warrior/rogue playthroughs. I even say the classic Howard Cosell line from Foreman-Frazier fight. Instead of "Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!"   Each slam on the ground is greeted with "Down goes Carver!"

Carver. I felt like Bethany was written so no matter what you couldn't be mean to her. I love Beth, but Carver felt more real. Sure some people are irritated by him joining the Templars, but he does say that he won't send Mage Hawke to the circle, and due to the fact that everyone ignores the mage running through town being awesome, I like thinking that Carver is the reason everyone turns a blind eye to Hawke's magic.

Bethany definitely.

Carver was fun to argue with, but whenever he made the comment about Bethany after settling into kirkwall, i knew we would never get along..

I like both of them a lot, but at the moment I'd pick Carver over Bethany. My first playthrough as a mage, he joined the Wardens. When I sided with the Templars and he showed up, I burst out laughing when he started yelling at me for siding with "that b*tch against your own people." Originally I had only been siding with the templars to get the achievement and I was going to load back and side with the mages, but Carver's absolute disbelief made me keep that as my ending for the game.

Bethany was nice enough, but when I made her a Warden I started getting a bit tired of how cold she was towards me. Every time I ran into her it was like, "Oh. It's you. Go figure." I mean, what did she want me to do? Ignore Anders and let her die down there?

Makes sense that she'd be miserable as a Warden and happier in the Circle. There are a lot of clues in the game that point to Bethany not being a fan of the running and the fighting. I like this detail about her. Still doesn't make her nearly as interesting a companion as Carver, but it's something.

I must say, the hug with Bethany when you sided with the Templar and still rescue her in the Circle was such a heart warming moment in the game. Almost as good as the hug with Tali in ME2...almost.

Bethany. Carver is a bit too much for my liking.

Carver is the jealous little brother, Bethany is the sweet sister that you just can't help protect.

On my playthrough with Bethany taken as a Circle Mage, my characters entire life was focused around helping mages, going as far as romancing Merrill, who became the substitute sister and going against all odds in the final battle, because he couldn't let the Knight Commander execute the innocent little sister!

Well she understand that she's going to spend the rest of her life and eventually die as a Warden fighting darkspawn in the Deep Roads. She'll have a shortened life and she'll never be able to have any children.  Turning her over to the Wardens is not a gift.

Better to turn her over to the Circle, at least you know she'll have a life after Kirkwall.

Bethany all the way. She might be too sweet for some, but I am glad we got one nice character. Not another p¤% or a train wreck.

Carver. I felt that bethany was too whinny (spelled right?) about everything. example, she complained about templars every moment we came to the gallows
