Ugh, after playing through the game twice, it suddenly hit me: This is the perfect ending for a DA3 MMORPG. Just think about it...

1. You have two factions (templars and mages) planning on waging war.
2. Add the Qunari to that battle and you have three.
3. Making it an MMO also "solves" the problem of having multiple "origins" again - just pick your race.
4. More and varied locations (depends, but you will have more to explore)
5. You companions (a.k.a. friends that play with you) can change their armour and are not stuck to upgrades.

Wow! What better way to take this series forward than create an MMO where hundreds of people can battle it out to see who's right. /sarcasm

Just so that everyone knows, I DO NOT WANT AN MMO!

BioWare, alhough DA2 was great (and dissapointing at the same time) I am extremely happy to have a good single player experience. If I go for an MMO, I will play SWTOR,  but that is my opinion. What is yours?

Do you guys fear that Bioware might head in an MMO direction based on this ending? Is there maybe proof that they won't? I am just paranoid?

Running one MMO is costly enough, so no.

But it can also generate a lot of money...and we all know how greedy EA can be...

But not to go off topic...another thing I noticed is that there is something Allistair mentions - about being unrest in Orlais, and how they will prevent them from taking over Ferelden or something - and that theme will also fit nicely into an MMORPG.

Aaah, why does everything have to fit so perfectly?

I doubt that DA3 will be an MMO. An MMO set within the DA universe (in addition to the main series of games) is certainly something we might see, depending on how successful the franchise is from here on out and how successful TOR is, but I doubt that they will change the main series, which has established itself as a single-player experience, over to an MMO. The fan outrage would be unbelievable and non-WoW MMOs have high enough failure rates as it is, I doubt that even EA would try to pull this off.

The same company isn't going to create 2 MMOs, which would run simultanously.

Things fit perfectly when you go looking for the links - in other words, your fear that it'll turn into an MMO is coloring your view and making you see things that are probably not there.

But, no, it's unlikely we'll see a Dragon Age MMO anytime soon, what with TOR still in development.

^This.

They're not Blizzard, they have yet to see if SWTOR is going to be successful, let alone thinking that they can make another MMO. Also the DA team isn't given as much funding as the core Bioware Team and probably doesn't have the multimillion dollar backing that the SWTOR team got.

I would hate for DA3 to be a mmo... but I'm not against an MMO set in TheDAS... Just put it in the days of the first Blight. There you have 200yrs of plot that PCs can't mess with. You can even fight the Archdemon and kill it as a boss. I'm pretty sure that before the Grey Wardens were made, they killed Thoth Dumat a LOT... He just kept respawning... XD

EDIT: Wrong god....

Better not. I have no interest in becoming a WoW-esque nerd with no life. I also dont think they will as they will be screwing over console fans.

It's technically possible to run two MMOs at the same time (Blizzard is thinking about doing it, if I remember correctly), but I doubt very much that DA is going MMO. Bioware could probably pull off The Old Republic simply because it already has a gigantic fanbase and the world is beloved enough by gamers and non-gamers alike to make it a money-making production. Also, it's significantly different from the Other Big MMO out there that it won't feel like you're re-hashing the same ground.

DA, on the other hand, is your Standard Fantasy Setting, same as WoW. There's not enough to differentiate it from the other game for gamers to put down WoW and pick up DA. Plus, there isn't nearly the fanbase that SWTOR has to back it up.

So yeah, no MMO. Not gonna happen.

mmmm, what you say is propably true. Still, it is rather uncanny that everything fits so well. Can we truly attribute it to my paranoia and pure coincidence? For those who watch xxxHolic - there is no such thing as coincedence - only hitsuzen.

Square is doing it. Granted, that's more of an example of what not to do at this point.

Chances of what you're suggesting are near zero.

Nearly any series' universe can be turned into an MMO if you've got the money and balls to try. Doesn't mean every series will churn out an MMO. Trust me, don't worry about it so much. You'll lose less sleep over it!

maybe it is. But it won't happen.

BioWare, much less EA, is going to take a chance with TWO MMO's that will compete with each other. At least not before seeing how SW:TOR turns out.

Ironically, BioWare is trying very hard to distinguish themselves from other RPG settings. They specifically re-did the entire artwork + voices for some races (Dalish Elves) so that people who look at DA2 will immediately know it is DA2 and not e.g. WoW

Meh, I made another link to why I believe DA2 is the prelude to a DA3 MMORPG. How do I do this! *facepalm*

The mere fact that DA is a Swords and Sorcery Fantasy RPG puts it in the "too much like WoW to be a viable competitor" category.

It's like challenging a Russian to a vodka-drinking contest, or a 10th-degree blackbelt to a face-kicking contest. You've already lost just by agreeing to the rules. To win, you have to switch it up. Challenge the blackbelt to a vodka drinking contest and the russian to a face-kicking contest, and you might have a shot.

If it does turn out to be an MMO, I won't play it. No hard feelings to people who play or developers who make MMOs, but I don't like them. There will always be new games, some better than others. I'll be a bit disappointed, but such is life sometimes.

It would be pretty awesome though if an MMO was actually created by the superstar Bio studio,

In reality that would suck though, because the dev time of an mmo would mean no rpg out of Edmonton for like 6 years : (

That would represent a huge loss to the entire world. Those guys are beyond other studio's abilities by far.

Okay, the idea that they would turn the series into an MMO is just silly. They're already kind of working on SW:TOR - why on Earth would they even consider trying to start up another MMO? It does not make sense at all - not one bit.

Whether or not it's possible, OP has a point in that the setting could work.

But technically it could also work for an RTS. Or... another cRPG.

Not sure about an MMO but I could see a RTS coming out of this if the world does fall apart and go to war. Also judging from the way EA is pumping out DA products it really wouldn't surprise me.

I think Bioware is smart enough to not attempt an MMO in the Dragon Age universe at the same as The Old Republic is being released. If The Old Republic fails(I hope not), then they should continue with single player games.
