While perusing through the upgrade list, I came to the Redundant Field Generator.  I got to thinking... I don't think I've ever seen my shields regenerate instantly upon failure, like the upgrade advertises.

So does it actually work, and I've just never noticed it?

Never noticed it working either. But I haven't really studied it closely so maybe I missed it.

Yes I have noticed it in action, but those have been times when it wasn't really needed anyway.

Note that your shields do not have to go completely down for the Redundant Field Generator upgrade to work. I noticed it the most on one of my Sentinel playthroughs, since Tech Armor boosts your shield enough to really notice it on the Insanity difficulty. In my opinion, the (Assault) Sentinel and Vanguard benefit from the Redundant Field Generator and Hard Shields upgrades the most since those classes will be spending the most time out of cover.

For RFG to actually make a difference you need to have Hard Shields (Nanocrystal Shields). Then you'll start noticing it. It doesn't happen often but when it does.... more bad guys die quicker.

It very rarely happens. But when it does, you really can notice it.

It does happen quite frequently and you definitely don't need Hard Shields to make it work (better). RFG only works when Shep has some shields left (with shields down it does nothing).
This is one of the best upgrades available and although you hardly notice it (it almost always happens in stressful situation - moments you don't have time to check what's happening to the shield bar), it does its job nicely.
