I was wondering - does anyone know what happens if you have done all sidequests in Act 1 and then spend your money in the stores, so that you don't have 50 sovereigns by the time starting the Deep Road quest is the only one remaining? Anyone tried that and seen what happens?

I haven't tried spending all my gold like that but I did get an offer from another dwarf to make the investment on my behalf, which I took and saved 50 gold! I suppose that'll become your only option to proceed if you don't have the gold when you're out of quests.

I wonder has anyone tried to accept the dwarf's money to go to the deep roads and double cross him and keep his half of the investment and slay him afterwards? Sounds like a plan for my next play through!

First time I played I didn't have enough coin. lol. So it was off to the dwarf. But my Hawke paid him off automatically by the time Act II began. I guess he's honest that way. Then again I was playing a diplomatic Hawke.

I didn't have enough gold on my play through, furthermore the dwarf who is put in for the purpose of saving your bacon by giving you the funds, that part did not work for me. I had to go back to an earlier save and redo that part and it worked for me thank goodness.

If you do all the quests, and are thorough in your playthrough you can get up to 100-110 sovereigns, that's with the DLC included(at least that's how much I got in my 2 playthroughs). That's plenty of money, and there's really no need to take the dwarfs offer. The only thing that's worth buying from the shops, are potions(depending on necessity, on normal and hard there was no need for myself to buy) the 2 backpacks, the book that gives you attributes(since it dissapears in act 2), varric's and aveline's armor upgrades, and maybe donating money to the Fereldan shelter for some exp. That's maybe 30-35 sovereigns, you give 50 for the expedition(and get it back in Act 2) and remain with about 20.

A dwarf named Dougal (or something like that) will offer to give you the cash once the quests are pretty much exhausted. He sends a letter to your uncle's house so make sure you check your mail.
