What do we know about SAVEGAME_ITEM_MATERIALTYPE?

I haven't seen anything about this property in any of the guides for changing the appearance of your equipment, so while it seems like it's probably carryover from DA:O's data structure, I thought I'd post something and see how late to the party I am. SAVEGAME_ITEM_MATERIALTYPE appears to determine:

(a) what material an item is listed as in its tooltip -- for cloth, for example, "charcoal washed" vs "silver threaded" and so on, and
(B) an item's shader. In the image below, Hawke is wearing gen_im_arm_cht_lgt_act2_01, with SAVEGAME_ITEM_MATERIALTYPE set to 2200-2203 left-right. Values outside this range look like the version on the left and display no material in the tooltip. It's the same texture, but shaders other than the default appear to knock out the medium tones (especially 2201).

I saw that request, and almost posted this in response to it. It's not really an answer, but it may be a good first step.

It's an index into item_materials.gda, which uses tint files to do their coloring. 2203 for example, is "Cloth - Gilt", and uses t3_rob_pl4.tnt.

Sooo... what you're saying is that someone could totally do an awesome revamp of the material tints to make armor look way cooler?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I hadn't noticed this thread (forum doesn't have search function), otherwise I would have posted the information in this thread here: http://social.biowar...7/index/6694578

Might be useful info.

Has anyone looked at the tint files themselves? There's not enough color variation in the armors, if you ask me. Thus every post I've made in this thread XD

The tint files are well defined in pygff.

http://mod.gib.me/dragonage2/rgb.zip

Extract to Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age 2 as usual. runscript rgb.

Select Aveline for example, for best (and hilarious) results.

(It adds a new material type called "Corpse" that uses a test tint file t3_arm_rgb, the rgb script applies this item material to all equipped items on the currently selected character)

I keep forgetting to post this somewhere useful -- the search form is located here.

Thanks!!

How do you navigate to the search form from within the forum (besides typing in the URL)?

I don't think you can, since the form at the top of the page went away. I haven't found a link anywhere on the forum. If I hadn't known the URL off the top of my head, I wouldn't have been able to find it again. It's possible they removed the link because it was eating a lot of resources (I recall it was just before or after release that this happened), but the absence of it is really putting a crimp in discussion and research.

How does one find that normally if they don't get the link from someone?

And is there a good resaon Bioware hides it?

Definitely! Well thanks for the tip. I feel sorry for others (paticularly modders) looking for info.
