i enjoyed the game but it deserves criticism
like i said awhile back: the game deserves criticism, not hate
I'm not going to tell others what to think, but if they want to hate it, thats there perogative. I certainly feel a bit cheated by Bioware as far was what I was led to believe about this game.
The bottom line for me is this: I would've bought this game anyways, as its a Bioware product, but I felt like I was getting something else and I was disappointed, and I will take that into consideration when DA3 is announced. I know it doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but upset enough customers and it becomes a much bigger piece of the pie.
Its a slippery slope, when you take steps to fundamentally change an experience and you need to take shortcuts to do it, then the risks of falling short become greater, even the greatest companies in the world aren't immune from this.
Bioware is still a great company, but with everything thats happened since the release of this game, they aren't coming out smelling like roses on all fronts.
right that's my view
we all have our own definitions of bad products and things we hate, for a lot of people it's execution that brings on the hate or brings on the praise
my reasoning is because i'm a concept man when it comes to judging video games - just because a game aims well but falls short on execution doesn't come anywhere close to deserving hate for me, i reserve that more for games that are bad in concept and annoying in execution

BIO was quite honest about what kind of game DA2 would be and its diffrences (and simialrities) with DA1.
"The DAO fetch quests at least made an effort to have some illusion of signifigance. "
This is hilarious spin.
The DAO quests had a story behind them, DA2's were just randomly plopped in there. Very lazy, like everything else about this game. But if your cool with giving away your hard earned $$$ for half arsed garbage - thats your right, as it is our right to insist on higher quality before we pi$$ away our $$$

Or the skeleton you casually return to someone throwing a "you lost your garbage serah".
Or maybe they're the same? These quests are so forgettable.

You realise Hawke only says "Your lost garbage, serah" when he's an a-hole, right? People keep bringing that up as if it really offends them...
I do. Regardless what alignment you go for, the PC still refers to the remains as "this", as if it was an item.
It's just cheap and generic oversight.
I prefered the sisters throwing me a Chantry canticle when I turned my quests in, at least I felt like I learned something about the game... and usually the canticle line matched the type of quest I had done.

Would it have been better in DA II if you saw a cutscene of Hawke giving back "item", instead of just an in-game acknowledgement from the quest-giver?
Hm... would examples be helpful? The lockbox you found in the Kokari Wilds - cut scene. You giving that lockbox to the owner - cutscene. Didn't have anything to do with the story, but the cutscenes helped give it narrative. Is that what you would have preferred in DA II's fed-ex quests?
Edit: Chantry canticle? Ha. I barely paid any attention to them in Origins. But to each their own, I guess.

Definitely. If I want to just do turn-ins and mindless quests, I have World of Warcraft for this - even then there's unique text pertaining to whatever quest I've done when I turn them in. You can escape out of a cutscene if you like. But right now, I have NO cutscene I can escape out.
I play for the immersion factor. I play because I want to learn more about Thedas. **** there's more politics going around Orzammar in a small segment of DA:O than in whole Kirkwall over a 10 years period.

I think it's a sad day for BioWare. Dragon Age 2 has a lot of wasted potential courtesy of their cutting corners. There's a great game there wanting to get out.
Bang on nailed it for me many thanks
For me there were some many times whjen you got glimpses of the game it should have been.. it then proceeded to hide in the rushed apathetic mess.

Exactly.
Fetching someone's toe or someone's remains is ridiculous.

How can anyone claim that stuff with a straight face? They're there for the same reason DA2 fetch quests (or any other RPG fetch quest) is. To pad play time, award players with xp/gold/loot, and have 'more to do' in each area you explore instead of just the main goal.
I mean come on, people, come on. Stick to bashing the repetive dungeons and superman spawns sicne there's actually a leg to stand on there. This other stuff just shows patheticness and grasping at jaws to 'defend' DA1's 'honour' due to your rabid fanboyism.

Its not just about meaningful....they just weren't as dumbed down as they are in DA:2
And in the final Irregulars quest...you had a choice in the final quest.
Side quests should have some sort of consequence. There should be rivalry and friendship involved.
By the way, Never said DA:1 was better. But DA:2 could have been better. It was fun but not to the same standards as the original.
And its my right as a consumer to express my opinion just as its your right to express yours.

Agreed. I liked the game, but the sloppy rushjobs on so many facets of the game overshadowed the good parts. If Dragon Age 3 ever comes to fruition, they need to go the extra mile in terms of terrain diversity, detail, and artwork.

Regardless, this game was a C+/B- at best. I loved Origins (especially with the Ultimate Edition), but what do you expect? When you let your parent company rush your game, you end up with pretty mediocre stuff, regardless of who's making it.
Bioware is one of my favorite game companies, probably only second to Valve, but they can't keep releasing buggy/lackluster games. The reused locations, disconnected story, non-dynamic character development, etc. were all something Bioware can do better and most likely would have if not for EA and their bottom-line.

I really wish I had found a cracked copy of this game and downloaded it for free. That way I wouldn't have felt bad about having paid for a game that wasn't worth my money. I guess I should stop paying for BioWare products from now on. They've stolen from me twice already. First because they never fixed my DLC problem in DAO, but they kept my money anyway. Then because They sold me this unfinished product called "Dragon Age 2" .
... So why should I feel bad about stealing from them?
Shame on you, BioWare!
