How do you tolerate the mining?

What should have been done was to simply put 25k of a resource at the end of each n7 mission so we can skip the boredom.

It's my opinion, I don't have to justify it. I positively loath the Mako, I loath everything about it. If you asked me if I would rather explore a planet in the Mako or break my own leg, I'd say pass the hammer.

i pretty much gave the middle finger to upgrading my weapons by playthrough #3 because of mining planets. whats shepard doing mining for minerals and more importantly what am I doing mining for minerals?

Mining is ME2's answer to trash looting from ME1..and I ask the same thing in both games. Why the hell am I corpse robbing in #1 and why can't EDI handle this for me in 2 and both turn into horrible time sucks.
I'd rather I earned money from Cerebus "donors" along the lines of how the old XCOM gave you money from various Blocs based on your success.

To work around this, I used the save editor to max out all minerals. A cheap method yes, but it saves me the time I can use exploring the more interesting features of ME2 instead of on that tedious mini-game.

Hmm?
The only "looting" you have to do in ME1 is the containers. Everytime any enemy dies you automatically get their stuff and any credits. ME1 was great in that it's one of the few RPGs where you don't have to pick-pocket everyone's dead corpse. Really ME2 has the same amount of "looting" for credits and upgrades.
I will grant you managing ME1's inventory took forever and could kind of get tedious especially when you have 100+ items. The problem isn't the inventory, it's just you had too much inventory/items.
Anyways...
I find planet scanning in ME2 more boring then anything in ME1. First time I played I had no clue how it worked and literally scanned every planet, only until later did learn that you're only suppose to scan rich planets since poor planets won't give you squat. Second playthrough was kind of tolerable. But my 3rd and 4th playthrus I pretty much loathed having to do it again. Only good thing is I no longer have to hunt for element zero really.
I dunno. The update to the scanner by Bioware has made it better. Gosh now I remember just how bad it was when you had that mini reticle and it literally moved like snail. Seriously planet scanning is a terrible time sink, even upgraded.
They better remove it in ME3 or drastically alter it. Not only that, but I kind of begrudge what planet scanning did to planet exploration as well. Instead of having a nice atmospheric view of each planet, they're all essentially marbles with grid lines on them now. Seriously they removed the Mako simply because people whined about it. Frankly I liked the Mako and you know I've played my fair share of tank games and honestly the Mako handles pretty well. It's the UNC planet terrain that sucks. But if you find the Mako hard to control you probably shouldn't operate any kind of vehicle bigger then a golf cart.
I do like the OPs idea and almost wish there had been something like that instead.

Same. I just edited the coalesced.ini file so that I have a huge pile of resources at the start of the game, and only do a quick scan of each planet to see if there's a sidequest there.Curunen wrote...
Er I don't tolerate it: save editor, or by commands through the coalesced.ini? Probably the same for a lot of people.

Isn't that how ME2 gives out money already?
Anyway, how about doing away with both money and mining? Neither really make any sense in the situation. In ME1 the Alliance should be funding everything you need. In ME2 Cerberus shoudl have a different ship doing mining and should have already bought everything in the shops before they revived Shepard.
Unless Shepard isn't backed by either organization in ME3, of course.

I don't tolerate it. I haven't mined a planet since my second play through over a year ago. I modded the ini so I don't have to do any planet scanning anymore.
