So, is anyone still modding these games to any degree? I thought I heard movements around BG2, but I haven't seen any modding activity for BG1 from any later than about three years ago (and those bits are rare - six is more the norm). A shame, since I've only recently actually gotten into it. However, is anything still happening out there? Would there even be any interest in more modding for the games?

I was just looking half an hour ago at the Infinity Enginge Modding News subforum at Sorceror's Place 'Boards o'Magick' forums and linking through to the Sword Coast Stratagems readme's (I & II) delighted at how much work is still put into Baldur's Gate. www.sorcerers.net/forums/forumdisplay.php
The modding community is still active. Just take a look at Gibberlings 3, Spellhold Studios, PocketPlane Group and Chosen of Mystra and you'll see how many mods there are. There's dead, unsupported mods in between, but also lot's that are supported, worked on and new ones in the make.
[sorry, to lazy right now for the links to the modding fora. Just google the names. It's midnight here, I'm tired and go to bed now]

Hmmm, I know things are happening with the big projects (like SCS), but I can probably list the mods for BG1 (without TuTu/BGT) from memory, and most aren't 100% brilliant. The rest are all discontinued.

You are right (and in my sleepiness last night I didn't see you were talking about BG1 in particular). It's a pity most work by modders is put in BG 2. What I myself miss most, is a wider choice in BG 1 mod-NPC's. Finch is a brilliant mod, but I wish there were more like her: well written and useful BG 1-NPC's.
I thought the Grey Clan was still active in writing quest mods, and they were working on a sequel, but the latest news update is from november 2008.
I often wonder why BG 1 seems to be so unpopular. It kept me happy and occupied for three years after discovering Baldur's Gate, before I found time to get to know BG 2. But I'm no modder, alas.

It's a shame about the Grey Clan. It was probably, imo, one of the best mods for BG1, and the latest word on part two seems to be that it's been discontinued, which is unfortunate because the last update before that said that almost all of the main plot line had been completed, and there were only sidequests and things to do.
I know playing BG without BGT or TuTu is not very popular, because the BG2 engine is generally better (better for players, but also more things modders can do). However, even with them there don't seem to be all that many BG1 mods. Maybe I should just go buy BG2, though. ;-)
