So is anyone else planning to do a run of rival-mance and friendship-mance for any of the LIs? I'd really like to do this at some point, but first I'm just going for completing a romance with each.
For those who've already done so, did you find the romance varied significantly depending on the path?

I would like to do that eventually. I romanced Anders with my female warrior but my 2nd character I decided to ditch and start again because of bad decision making - I would have gone with Fenris for her (female mage). The new character is a male rogue is romancing Merrill, probably on the rival route.

I am incredibly lazy and usually have like, 2 runthroughs in me at most. I will see what the fuss is about with Fenris (I eyerolled at the winebottle scene first time I saw it that I almost lost a contact lens) and view Isabela as my canon playthrough choice. It will be hard not romance her, and not have Varric in the party also. =/

I rival-manced Merrill with my mage and preferred it to the friendship path. I find it more real and sweet, because everything isn't all rainbows and gumdrops with their relationship.

Hawke knew that mirror was bad news, but stuck by Merrill's side because he didn't want her to get hurt. They were actually friends up until the arul'nholm bit. When she asked for it, he couldn't go against his gut feelings and refused. She got really angry, felt betrayed, and later threw him out of her house yelling "I never want to see you again!". Then she came back to his place and apologized, having realized that he was just looking out for her. Cue romance scene.

It was all very heartwarming.

Ooh, that does sound nice! I think I will go with the rival path when it comes to my first Merrill-mancing playthrough It seems to me that the Merrill rivalmance has the best impact on her life, lol!

I have a (couple of) friend and rivalmances with Fenris. I like them both very much. Fenris is angrier with a rival, sweeter with a friend, and I think ultimately a friend is better for him, but I actually prefer the rivalmance for some reason. Maybe because it's fun picking all those mean dialog choices I could never bring myself to do in Origins

Ultimately they're very similar. There are a few different cutscenes and lines of dialogs, and as I said, he is definitely angrier with a rival (down to swearing at Hawke in Tevinter), but it goes down the same paths. Oh, the kiss cutscenes are slightly different as well -- both variations of the sexytime kiss, glow and non-glow, are different with the kiss being more on the mouth for the friendship and more neck biting on the rivialry (yes I noticed that).  I think his other kisses are pretty much the same, however.

The only romance I've done so far is Fenris rivalry, and it was pretty intense, haha! It would be nice to see a sweeter side of him. If only I had unlimited time...

Fenris is a secret vampire! I really want to try out one of his paths but then I would have to have both mage Hawke and rogue Hawke running at the same time!

It really is. I have a save right before the romance scene, just because it's so darn sweet to watch.

Whoever did the animations is really REALLY good. Not only the body postures (which are amazing), but the facial expressions are incredible. Very classy, very sexy, and very believable. So I had to watch them lots!

So far I only have rival-mances for Anders and Fenris. I'll get around to do the friendship ones sometime.

I found it about as bad as breaking up with Jack before the relay at the end of Mass Effect 2. Thank God that decision isn't canon.

Merrill ninjamanced my female rogue during that scene:blink:. I went through with the romance scene and then shut her down during the "I love you" scene, and felt so bad about it that I had to reload the save and continue the romance in earnest. Now I need to do ANOTHER playthrough.

This is my first playthrough and I've been hoping for the friendmance with Fenris, however I hear the rivalmance is still prettyhot and I love the idea you can romance someone without having to rp your character in a different way to fit them or make choices you don't want to etc. So, if my femhawke ends up being more of a rival with Fen I shant mind.

I will also have a mage to romance Anders...and I was thinking of doing a warrior to romance mr.chastitybelt Sebastian. If I get more then two or three plays I will definitely try to do a full friend and full rival romance with both Fen and Anders.

After seeing one hot scene with malehawke and isabella I am tempted to do a male character to try her romance LOL

Only done the Isabela path as a female. She asks Hawke if she wants to have some "girly fun". You can be like "What, shopping?"

yes, im doing that i payed $60 for this game so i'm going to try every scenario this game has to offer except the gay male romances. so far i have done friend-mances for Merrill and Isabella. i started to do a rival-mance for Isabella but i gave up and decided to friend-mance fenris with a female hawke.
