Templars are pretty s**ty too. You just have to pick the less s**ty of the two, which in my opinion, is the mages, since they have innocent people in their faction.

*Quietly points at Thrask, Cullen, Emeric, Greagoir, Wesley, and several other unnamed and unmourned heroes*

...How is Wesley a hero? Or Cullen? Or Greagoir?

TJ that kid you rescue with grace IS a blood mage.

He only uses blood magic to revive your sister/brother/LI/friend that gets kidnapped. He wasnt a blood mage up until that point.

Because they understand peace and compromise.

I wasn't arguing heroes, I was arguing innocents. While these templars you mention may be good at heart, they are sworn soldiers-- not innocent in the least. When choosing the "right" side, you have to consider the innocent factor. If you are trying to be "good" always side with the faction that has the most innocents.

Mages: all those poor innocents who had nothing to do with anything

Templars: no innocents

Greagoir having no problem with Irving and the rest of the Circle being annuled is compromise?

Cullen telling Hawke that "mages aren't people" is a peaceful notion?

The only reason Wesley doesn't drag Bethany/Hawke in is because the Blight is breathing down their necks. He didn't act out of compassion for mages.

I wouldn't call them "heroes", exactly. Wouldn't call them jackasses either... except maybe Cullen... sometimes... jackass... :D

Ahhh, yes - he does turn to it in the end.

So 2 non-blood mages . .. Ella and Bethany.

Wow.

Greagoir has to take an unhappy decision in a moment of crisis to avoid it spill and damage the whole country.
Cullen position progress as the plot unfolds.
Wesley was the chosen man of Aveline.

Afterward, when he sees that Irving is not corrupted, he still has no problem annuling the entire Circle. No compromise there.

Not by much. Cullen's views are still pretty skewed. I can see why they're skewed, but they're still skewed.

...And? Wesley still doesn't act out of any compassion for the mages. There's nothing all that heroic about him.

There's nothing really heroic about anyone in DA2... except maybe Hawke... unless you roleplayed him/her as dickish as everyone else :)

I think we can disagree with each other's opinions on templars and mages without calling people trolls for it. Given that the quest Meredith places us on to hunt for two mages who were clearly driven over the edge from their time in the Kirkwall Circle (since they were sane beforehand, especially when we consider that Evalina was a member of the Circle of Ferelden), I don't see why Emperor Iaius is off the mark in addressing that the mages outside the Circle (like Bethany, Malcolm, Merrill, Terrie, Marethari) seem to be relatively sane in comparison to how it seems to twist some mages (like Grace, Huon,  Evelina).

No. Maybe to get the population to hate Anders, but not mages.

You know how a lot of Americans hate Muslims because some terrorists who were Muslims attacked us in the name of Islam, even though most Muslims don't support terrorism? Yes, well Anders did that for DA2. Which is awesome, because it is once again bringing in contemporary issues into the game to make the entire world that much more relatable, believable, and complicated.

I don't know if they just wanted mages hated....but man, I was a mage supporter turn Templar supporter because of this game.

It's hard to support corruption, madness, abominations, and blood magic. I'll actually take the lyrium addicted zealots in this round. Keep the mages locked up and keep the people of Thedas safe.

Yeah, that doesn't really work.

If you saw a bunch of hillbillies beating up a Muslim and you chased off the hillbillies the Muslim wouldn't transform into a seven foot tall monster who's only intent is to eat your still beating heart.

Although, if that does happen to you then you know those hillbillies were heroes and you stopped them from killing a horror movie monster. Great job.

I hate the mages & Templars evenly.

I hate mages because they are sissies, they have all that power that isn't linked to demon and they resort to demon power and when they do fight back they get their asses kicked. Plus they took way to long to stand up and fight and only did it when they were faced with annihilation.

Templars for being the soldiers of the Chantry.

Wesley understood a cease fire, even Meredith was capable of that.  If Cullen truly understood peace he would have stabbed Meredith in the spine years ago.  And Greagoir, he simply wasn't an extremist.  He displayed no compromise.
