Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the age old war of the RPG.
(And Yes I realise I'm retreading old ground here, but damnit I want a turn beating this dead horse!)

When story fades in favor of the glitzy, "Ooooo Shiny' effects and mad cap button mashing battle rush!
(that dear friends is what we currently are suffering with DA2).
or
"Open World to Explore!" (Oblivion cames screeching to mind) where we can walk over every identical rock, tree and water sprites! Kill anyone!  And as a result nothing we do really matters. Slaughter villagers, and you have an empty village and maybe your 'rep' goes down, but the King will still say 'Hi!'
(Although the whole kill anyone in Planescape Torment was quite fun, hell DYING was fun in that one)
*Bastards sucked alot of the life out of Fallout too*

Yes you need the graphics to bring people in, and the more God of War style combat will appeal to a broader audience. I get that, I do. But look at the fan base you(That would be BioWare, in the Royal sense hehe) had from Origins for God's Sake! The sales, the Facebook response! You have your sales demographic right there, slavering like a bunch of wild dogs waiting for the next bit of RPG steak!
(I like mine medium rare, the blood adds flavor)

Any idea how many times I went back to that Origin well for a replay, just to see where that other choice went? I'm still doing it, and the DLCs too. You know why? They're more interesting then DA2, in fact come to think of it I'd compare DA2 more to Jade Empire then Origins. Both good games, hell I enjoyed them! But they both lacked Origins.... Soul? Is that a good word to use I wonder... Hmm.

Everything said and done though.

You know what one of the best things of my first run through Origins was? The End. The static background, with it's simple text explaination of what the consequences of my actions had done. How some decisions,  how ever well meaning at the time, came back with forbiding overtones for the future.

Oh what a thrill! To know that all this was going to somehow bubble bubble, toil and trouble in the sequel!

All from some simple text.
