Why are there 50 levels if you can only realistically get about half of that?

I am guessing it is for DLC purposes, although I agree it is entirely pointless.

Because the player can't reach it, so they don't feel arbitrarily limited on how powerful they can become.

To leave themselves wiggle room for DLC and/or expansions.

This.
DLC is a silly argument. If that were the case, any DLC they chose to release could just extend the level cap. The real reason is because they didn't want to have an attainable hard cap, because then the player complains about doing quests/killing **** and not getting anything for it.

this....would you rather they put a more reachable 25 lvl cap so that if you DID earn more it would be wasted?
I hate that in games...not earning exp anymore because of a cap takes away from the enjoyment...because at that point you just want to get to each new cutscene to finish because there literally is no point in finding things to kill or completing quests anymore.
I'll take an unreachable lvl cap over a reachable one any day thxbye

Too see how many people would use exploits.

I don't think its silly, this way its something they don't need to worry about for DLC, and any DLC will add to levelling up unlike with DAO and its DLC except for Awakenings.ishmaeltheforsaken wrote...

I'm pretty sure they did it in preparation for DLC...

What's the point of this? Does it bother you the limit is 50? Sheesh.

DA:O had a cap of 25, then increased to 35 with awakening.
the DLC argument holds no water, they can just increase the level cap with the DLC itself.
they made the cap level 50 because they picked a random even number to put the arbitrary level limit.
