Thank you for your valuable contributions SuicidialBaby. I've bookmarked a lot of your topics, even though you call your work "unfinished" it's still an amazing starting point, I haven't yet played a blood mage, and despite the changes of the recent patch, this is still a great place for me to read through and understand the mechanics of this build.

Blood Lust is manadtory

Standard spell cast cycle spells:
Graviitc Ring - 30 mana
Pull of the Abyss - 30 mana
Tempest - 50 mana
Firestorm - 60 mana
Winter's Grasp - 20 mana
Cone of Cold - 30 mana
Hemmorage - 60 mana

Only Blood Magic conversion, no Blood Lust or items:
2:1 Health to Mana Ratio = 20 hp average per cast
Graviitc Ring - 30 mana - 15 Health
Pull of the Abyss - 30 mana - 15 Health
Tempest - 50 mana - 25 Health
Firestorm - 60 mana - 30 Health
Winter's Grasp - 20 mana - 10 Health
Cone of Cold - 30 mana - 15 Health

My willpower is at 56 and my con is at 24 which gives me 229 health. Do you think that is enough for a decent blood mage post patch, or should I change things up and put everything into Magic and con?

thats way too much willpower....

pure magic with minimal con is suggested. Use pre-buff to supplement willpower requirements, this will avoid using any points for willpower. cast out mana, then activate BM, then go nuts and use Grave Robber/Sacrifice to stay in BM as long as possible.

Great guide SB. I've gone back to DA2 for another playthrough after a long lay-off and just have a couple of quick questions

In terms of the above I see it in allot of your tactics. What does it actually do? My reading of it is as long as 1 enemy is alive tactics are skipped? I must be missing something?

Also I'm still having problems with Anders dying all the time. I know the "Use item"  in rregards to potions issues for tactics was fixed but I'm just wondering if theres still an issue setting him to ranged? The man is on his back more times then Isabela !

skip is basically a "return to tactic 1" if the condition set  to skip tactics is met.

aggressive behavior will save you frustration.  stick to it for all characters and all encounters.  select all and hold will be your main forms of control.

Thanks for the awesome guide. :) for those of us comin to the game late and using the most recent patch blood magic now reserved 70% and you can't go over 100% reserve anymore.

Thanks again for the guide though.

I'm not quite sure if I understand the Blood Math part quite thoroughly. I'm trying to use your Merrill build and it said all points into Magic, but the next line says Points into Con = Blood Conversion. Can I get a simple explanation if this is required please. Or just ignore that line and completely pump all points into Magic.

That's what I thought. I did the recommended 3:1 conversion, but I just basically pumped all 19 points that was required in Constitution. I'm hoping I'm doing right. I'm also hoping the Merrill build isn't a build that revolves around the PC Blood Mage and hope it's a standalone build. I basically followed all the other Companion builds on this thread. I swap them constantly. I.E. If Aveline gets rivalary points in a quest, I would swap in Fenris. I like using Fenris alot, but it so easy to make him a rival because almost anything you say can add to Rivarly. I haven't use Merril yet until she gets the AOE attacks around levels 16-17. She will destroy a boss if laid out in front her, but doesn't really attack yet unless Aveline/Fenris Staggers them and she hits them with Chain Lightning.

My Hawke is a rogue, but I really enjoy all the builds in this thread so far.

To the OP, SuicidalBaby, thanks for your time in putting this thread together. It's been a big help so far. :happy:

Well I tend to spec her a little differently depending what party I am running with but this http://social.biowar...5/index/6890353 guide is a really good start. Just remember you will need to ether not use Merrill's aoe nature effect or make anders use elemental weapons if you go with the recommended party.

Hello, I am Dearly hoping that someone is still following this thread. First off, THANK YOU! I have been a Blood Mage since the begining of DA:O, and this has helped me improve my tactics, and understanding of a few key elements. I just started a new playthrough of DA 2 since DA:I is coming out in less than 2 weeks!

 

Did Blood Magic get nerfed??? The conversion pieces seem to have been reduced to 1/4 !!  How have you dealt with this, are there still pieces with a 1-1 ? Or am i now just looking to stack up on every slot possible??

ya, the conversion tables are up.  basically just add 11 con and you're good.  armor is no longer a thing with blood magic, just a few more points in health.  with items you'll be fine if you use your mana first then switch over.  tactics are set up for this.
