I'm thinking of starting a second playthrough as either a Mage or a Rogue. I had my eyes fixed on a Mage, until my buddy told me there aren't a lot of cool clothing for the mage. The character's clothing is a big part of me for RPGs, so if anyone can confirm this or deny it I'd really appreciate the help.

Also, if you have a cool mage, post your character so I can see the different armors! :)

I block out the robes by using Rock Armor. And the Spirit Eye robes are pretty cool.

Rock Armor does look awesome, too bad it's only on during battles... Though it would look silly walking around town like that.

there are NO sets of decent mage armor making it an asbolute bummer to look at until you get the champion robes. The class is fun but MORE MAGE ARMOR PLEASE!!!!

Early game mage clothing, yeah, it's crap. I'd really like to see some better mage clothing (we have enough crappy robes).

Actually I was refering to the battlemage armaments it offers decent protection it looks like armor is designed for mages.
The only problem is, its not available until act 3 at which point you can pick up the champion set.

Other than Champion, there are only 2 mage sets, both of which are robes:
http://dragonage.wik...of_the_Overseer
http://dragonage.wik...l_Eye_armor_set

I also prefer the tunics. (1) it fits in with the fact that you are trying to hide your mageness, a robe doesn't help with that. (2) other than Orsino's robe, I dislike them all and have a negative feeling about robes in general since they used only 2 models with various colors in DA:O.

http://dragonage.wik...otorious_Pirate
- This is a tunic you can get in Act 2. It's brown/black with leather straps.

There is also a green tunic (one of my faves for appearance) that you can get in Act 1 I think.

I'll post more if I run across them in my mage play.

The issue isn't about armor sets. Its wanting to play a mage who wears armor and not robes.

Use the No Restrictions mod found here. Personally I like the robes, just wish there was more variety, like 3x more different styles than the ones currently available.

Did you even read my entire post? I listed those to make the point that non-robe options are limited. Other than the Champion armor set, there are no non-robe sets. Sets are important since they give bonuses. Everyone should want to wear an armor set (robes or not) because of the bonuses, especially if you are playing at higher difficulty levels.

If you do not want to wear a robe for most of the game and don't care about set bonuses, you will need to stick with your smuggler/mercenary tunic for the first part, and then use Free Adept Robes, Free Magus Robes (upgrade from Adept, same appereance), or the Robes of the Notorius Pirate as you progress through the game (these are the only ones I know of from drops, I haven't looked at all of the vendor ones).

Hm guess I need to look at vendors more often o.O.

I like the robes design in the game but they wreck my immersion since im supposed to be an apostate that is trying to NOT look like a mage and given that only mages wear robes in this game its a wonder how no templar ever notices Hawke, they must be pretty bad at their jobs

I was hoping robes would look more like the default one you get at the start of the game or like Bethany's clothes

Just spotted the witch robes on "jess the leashmaster during the quest Reigning it in" thought I would actually get an appealing set of mage robes but they couldn't bother making anything for the main character that would actually look good it seems. The robes in this game are crap and they don't get better towards the end either.

There are some cool ones. The Champion Set and Pirate robes are some that come to mind.

The dlc mage armor are nice especially the low level one, not fan of the High lvl one looks like the viscounts robes but I am a sucker for hood with masks.

The Pirate robes are nice. They aren't really robes, but pants and vest.

Seconding what RobRam said: the low-level DLC mage robes are really very nice, and suitable for the apostate mage who's trying to keep a low profile. The high-level robes aren't as attractive (at least not on a FemHawke), but by that point you're close to getting the Champion armor anyway.

Speaking of, my gripe regarding the mage armors is that the Overseer robes are offered wayyyyy too late in the game. It's like--okay, you can head to Sundermount to complete the Overseer set, OR you can go kill the High Dragon to get the Champion armor which is better in every way. If you make the rational choice there, you never have a chance to wear the Overseer robes. Useless.

Yeah, the Overseer robes should really be available in Act II somewhere...

They are quite nice, and I do like the second high level "robe", although the colour could've been different.

Edit: And the following mod is a nice champion armour replacement for LadyHawkes:

On my second play thru i played a female mage, hoping that mages would have armor similar to the mage champion armor boy was i wrong. All those damn robes look the same only with different mana output. I hated fighting Arishok with a damn dress on that look like it could have been made by and sold in a flee market down south. The only good looking thing you gonna get for your mage is his or her champion armor.
