If so, could someone explain how to use them? I've got a game-stopping bug, and I desperately need a search to see if it's being discussed.

I'll second that request. I suspect they removed it though to decrease load on their servers during initial release of the game.

I have never seen a standard search function on these forums since Bioware started the Social Network.

Emmm, dunno where you were looking, but the search function was always here, like someone else said they probably removed it for a while.

They tend to remove it when the site is under heavy load, such as when a new game comes out. However the built-in search function isn't that useful anyways, it only searches titles and the results are sorted with the oldest ones listed first, so its really hard to find the answer you are looking for. Google with a site:social.bioware.com modifier generally works better.
