My interpretation of Sandal's prophecy

So Anders, is for example an example of this.
The 'Gods' merely inhabited their bodies, which swelled to contain the spiritual mass, becoming... a dragon.
As we have significance that if a non Grey Warden kills an Archdemon, the Archdemon merely goes to the next nearest Darkspawn instead.
We also have Flemeth as an example of this 'shapechanging' ability.
So essentially the point is this, spiritual beings have different forms in the solid world and therefore the 'Old Gods' were previously not stuck in the physical world until the Maker cast them out.

Also the Primeval Thaig is much older than the first recorded Dwarven Thaig and is filled with magic. Which leads me to believe that Dwarves once had magic like Sandal seems to have. But something must have happened that has changed the Dwarves and the old ways were almost completely forgotten akin to what happened to Ancient Elves.

Sandal could get lost and wind up there instead. Not to mention Feynriel goes to Tevinter, and if Connor was freed the epilogue of Origins says at Eamon's suggestion he goes to Tevinter to join in a study of the Fade.

They wouldn't stick Sandal in the second game and give us so much hinting evidence if he was just a joke. Also he is going to Orlais with Bodahn. Chantry has fallen apart and it's centre is in Val Royeaux ... exactly where they are going.

Maybe instead of the dwarves "having" magic they "forged" it. By that I mean maybe the dwarves were once "magic-smiths" able to imbue ordinary items with raw magic and lyrium and the items in turn acted as a focus for the dwarves to use spells and magical abilities. The dwarves themselves were still magic-less but were able to use it through the magical items they created. Maybe the artifact you find in the Primeval Thaig is one such item. A focus the dwarves created to channel and use magical energy and abilities. Maybe rune-crafting is just a very primitive form of "magic forging."
If that were true would help to explain the artifact itself and sandals savant runecrafting abilities.

He made his 'First Born', and they lived in the fade, and they would sing, but they would sing the song of cobblestones.
The Maker grew angry however, because they would not create anything of their own, and he abandoned the first born, in favor of the second born, who were Humans, Elves etc.
He locked himself within the Golden City, watching the wonderous things that the second born would create.
Old Gods = First Born? (they continue to sing, while they sleep?)

The dev's are obviously making his origin's shrouded, and his seemingly innocent nature as such, for a plot twist or some sort of reveal.... or perhaps just for comedy value.
Maybe hes the Maker.

Things that back this is that all classes have a magic stat, and non mages can learn Templar skills which drain mana and negate spells(there are spells that do this same thing).
As for your first paragraph about Sandals prophecy, it's an interesting theory. Surely there's something in the codex somewhere that would back it up.
The Templar powers thing isn't just gameplay mechanics. It's established lore. Anyone can learn how to use Templar abilities (without lyrium) which implies that everyone has those latent magical abilities in them. Just that mages get other powers from the fade.

I wouldnt sniff your nose at that idea.
Look at Supernatural (tv series)
The Prophet 'Chuck' is suspected to be God, and he looks like a nerdy geek.
The only reason hes suspected of being God, is
1. He has ArchAngels following him around
2. He Writes the future of important events
3. At the end of series 5, he teleported/vanished off screen, implying he is someone of significance, especially when he is the one doing the overture/voice overs.
Sandal might be innocent looking and all.
But hes no ordinary Dwarf,
He loves to make things (Creator sort of instinct?)
Obviously has some unknown magical talent that we havent seen before.
I mean... Orsino isnt even able to Freeze an Ogre solid in mid attack.
Implying that when Cornered, Sandal can unleash devastating attacks.
I bet there will be a big plot twist around sandal
Also - Is it ever explained about who the 'Old Lady' standing over his bed is, in Act 3? (He complains about a scarey old lady)
I suspected it might be Mommy (Leandra), but being honest, its 3-4 years after her death, seems random for her ghost to be haunting the house after that time.
Maybe its someone from Sandal's Backstory?

Anyone else notice that this is remarkably similar to what the Nexus Golem says? "We were once more than we are..."
Most curious...
He mentions that "only a shaperate" could be able to gain access to the nexus golem's goods. In recent memory, there is only one shaperate in all of Thedas, and he is responsible for dwarven history.
I take it as implied that there was, at one time, more than one, or many shaperates -- the magisters of the dwarven empire which was obviously expansive. For proof, one need only look at the size and extent of the Deep Roads.

There's no implying about it. He did the same thing in Origins in the Keep as you (the player) ascended to the roof to battle the Arch Demon.

Back on topic I think Sandal may have a spirit or a whole different personality because when he tells the prophecy his vioce is almost different but when Bodahn snaps him out of it Sandal seems all normal like it was someone else speaking through him

Bodhan's reaction is hilarious. "By the Ancestors! Whats gotten into you, my boy?"

Codex:
Chant of Light: Canticle of Silence -
The Old Gods will call to you,
From their ancient prisons they will sing.
Dragons with wicked eyes and wicked hearts,
On blacken'd wings does deceit take flight,
The first of My children, lost to night.
-Silence 3:6, Dissonant Verse
- Lyrium:" For in its raw form, lyrium sings, and the discerning can hear the sound even through solid rock.
"
Chant of Light: Threnodies 5
"Then in the center of heaven
He called forth
A city with towers of gold,
streets with music for cobblestones" (Lyrium?)
"The children of the Maker gathered
Before his golden throne
And sang hymns of praise unending.
But their songs
Were the songs of the cobblestones."
