Wow this is by far the mist interesting thread in these forums, I am surprised a dev has yet to chime in here, and I definitely hink sandal has magic, let's not forget the you run into him again in the circle surrounded by at least a dozen dead abominations, a dead desire demon and even a dead pride Demon! Can't wait for DA3

Do you see Dwarven mages in the future?

At some point while in the manor, if you click on Sandal, he talks about how "That big tower in the lake is scary!"

I believe this points to his time visiting the circle of magi in Ferelden when he was declared a "savant" - but perhaps he was once a mage in some circle or perhaps even in the circle of Ferelden and was such a powerful mage that he was made tranquil (or perhaps tranquilization failed, as we know he shows certain emotions) - and the circle being closed as it was, this information never got out and perhaps the generation of guards/templars that the Hero of Ferelden meets came after Sandal's time there. Also, I believe that Dwarves live much longer than humans despite all the races in Dragon Age being mortal - perhaps not by hundreds of years, but I remember reading  in the lore that Dwarves generally live longer than humans, so Sandal could very well actually be 45-50 years old despite looking quite young, Bodahn probably 70-80.

As soon as Sandal talks about the 'scary tower in the lake', Bodahn clarifies and tells Hawke he's referring to the Gallows and that he agrees with Sandals sentiment.

In reality, its very possible he is a Dragon, possibly an Uber Dragon, or the First Dragon.
Maybe he isnt actually a being at all?
If Old God's ruled the world, eg the Dragons, they no doubt had Humanity running scared, and Humans worshiped them out of fear. Big Monstrous Lizards etc...

Ah yes, as shown in Exhibit A. (Favorite Origins cutscene btw B)

Also - Is it ever explained about who the 'Old Lady' standing over his bed is, in Act 3? (He complains about a scarey old lady)
I suspected it might be Mommy (Leandra), but being honest, its 3-4 years after her death, seems random for her ghost to be haunting the house after that time.
Maybe its someone from Sandal's Backstory?

Maybe Flemeth visited him at night? o.o

I think Flemeth and sandal are both old gods walking the earth. they both can see the futer and both apear in the paths of the worlds most powerful heros. and both hate the darkspawn. they know eachother and I think their bodies are them asleep and flemeth is awake thats why she can turn intoi a dragon. bodhan said he found sandal in the deep raods by himself. perhaps thats where he was left by the maker.

I think this is what I believe. At least Flemeth, I don't know about Sandal ... but Flemeth is some kind of ancient being with powers far beyond any mortal. There are two old gods left that have not been tainted. I think it's possible one awoke (Razikale or Lusacan) years ago and  became "Flemeth". She goes on about how old she is, what's older than an old god? lol
As for Sandal ... he is at least some kind of "prophet". Is it a coincidence that he was with two of the most important people in Thedas during the most tumultuous times of their lives? Perhaps he, like Flemeth, is helping them towards their destiny albeit in his own odd little way.

The Feeling I get with Sandal is that he is carrying a powerful spirit and due to his nature isn't a danger to that spirit, so no threat that Sandal's emotions will cause the spirit to go demonic in the way Anders effects Justice.

When Sandal is threatened the Spirit can unleash a can of woop ass and helps Sandal by teaching him enchantments that other Dwarfen smiths dont know.......Sandal can apparently enchant just about anything according to Bohdan.

Also Bohdans (spelling?) adoption of Sandal seems hugely out of character for a dwarf and totally outside dwarfen culture where the bloodline is the primary focus of the dwarfs with their ancestor worship and their willingness to see fellow dwarfs as sub-dwarfen based on the actions of their ancestors.......so maybe the spirit helped nudge Bohdan into taking care of it host.

Edit: I just remembered the Dwarf mother from DA:O who's family wanted her to abandon her baby in the deep roads, maybe Sandal was abandoned by his clan in the deep roads and found 'something' or maybe the 'something' found him.

The Story about the Dread-Wolf is explained by Merril.
She doesnt say Demons warred with Gods or Spirits,
She explicitly said there were two groups of Gods. The DreadWolf was a trickster God, who played both sides off against eachother, telling both sides, that the opposition had a weapon that could end the conflict in their favor.

In order to get the ficticous weapon, both sides were tricked into the heavens and the hells, and sealed within by the DreadWolf, leaving only him in the world.

. . .

Its more likely that the Dreadwolf story, is an interpretation of the Maker's banishment of the Old Gods to Earth, from an Elven point of view.
The only inconsistency is that
1. The Gods in the Dreadwolf story, were sealed away, not banished to earth as the Old Gods were apparently.
2. The Maker in the First Born story, sealed himself in the Golden City, meaning he cant be the Dreadwolf, as the Dreadwolf is said to have 'stayed' on earth.

I got something different from the Dread Wolf myth.
Sandal says, "The shadows will part."
The myth mentions the Forgotten ones were sealed away in the abyss.
Sandals says, "and the skies wil open wide."
The myth also mentions that the Creators were sealed away in the heaven.
To me that sounds like two rival clans of gods, or some weird race of spirits/beings once worshiped as gods, are going break jail and reenter the mortal world.

I'm guessing that "When he rises, everyone will see," is refering to the Dread Wolf and that it is a entity seperate from the Maker. The Fen'Harel codex entry from Origins says, "it is said that Fen'Harel spent centuries in a far corner of the earth, giggling madly and hugging himself in glee." Save for Fen'Harel being a he, that description certainly sounds like what we know about Flemeth. Flemeth could be just an identity Fen'Harel made up or assumed after possessing a mortal woman -- the story of Flemeth and Conobar being partly true.

A big aspect of Flemeth seems to be her regret, but she never states what is it she regrets. If Flemeth is actually Fen'Harel then that regret could be sealing the other gods away and Flemeth's current goal. I think the Dalish story may have a bias in it and Fen'Harel didn't just seal the gods away for the lulz, but because by doing so he thought he was helping the world. The conflict between the Forgotten Ones and the Creators may have been endangering the world and the only way to save it  was to lock them away.

Flemeth: Considering what the world has done to me, I have already done more than it deserves.
Warden
: And what has the world done to you?
Flemeth
: That is between the world and me.

However Fen'Harel/Flemeth is unhappy with how things have turned out and wants to release the others back into the world to see what happens.

I am of the opinion that Sandal was a mage, or at least showed magical ability, but was cast out and was subject to some sort of botched ritual of Tranquility (or perhaps it just works different on Dwarves now that most can't use magic) which made him simple instead. Not necessarily in that order. It's the line Bodan says about how mages aren't the ones that do the enchanting, it's always the Tranquil.

I mean, who's to say the ritual would work the same on them, with their resistance to magic and whatnot? Not like there's been a dwarven mage to test it on even in the dim reaches of their known history, after all.

Anyone else get the feeling the dev's leave everything open so fans could speculate and they could borrow ideas from us?

Back on topic I think Sandal may have a spirit or a whole different personality because when he tells the prophecy his vioce is almost different but when Bodahn snaps him out of it Sandal seems all normal like it was someone else speaking through him

Bodhan's reaction is hilarious. "By the Ancestors! Whats gotten into you, my boy?"

Posted Image Yea and then when Sandal says "Enchanment!" and Bodhan says" Thats more I like it"
