Sure it is, shoot them, they go away, so does the hate.  Sorry, Batarians are my favorite alien species to take down.  Besides, how many times do THEY start the fight with Shepard?

What really interested me, was the tidbit about redeploying of the Citadel Fleets.  They are now spaced out covering the relays which will make them mincemeat for the Reapers.  Wonder if we will see the Council Fleet smashed into tiny bits in the begging and the Geth save the day.  I'm down for some Geth love this game, and that sure would build some good will with the Quarrians helping to heal the breach.  Ahhhhh, desires desires lol.

Whoa, batarians have some legitimate grievances against humanity. I don't agree with their support of slavery but I don't enjoy killing them.

Our hate for each other isn't going to just go away like that and if possible I'd like to take the first step to ending it.

Next time you see a blink, give him a hug, not a bullet.

Their hate will go away when we eradicate them.

Batarian Ambassador of what? They aren´t a Citadel Race anymore, or have I missed something...

Probably the Batarian ambassador on Earth, Even With the citadel governments would probably still have direct access to each other though ambassadors.

Kind of like now, We got the U.N but also ambassadors.

Thought about that too...but still - weren´t the humans the Batarian´s "No1 Enemy"?
Or are they having resentments against the Citadel Council races because they didn´t help them against the humans...?

Even at the very height of the cold war the Soviets had an ambassador in the US.

Usually ambassadors are only recalled by the time a shooting war breaks out(or sometimes as a political ploy but that's rare).

The update I find most intriguing (and disturbing) is the one from the Hanar homeworld. We can all guess from it that one of two things are going to happen: the Hanar are going to give up their religion, or, and this one's more likely, they're going to worship the Reapers and allow themsleves to be 'ascended'.

I wholeheartedly agree with letting the Reapers have fun with Kar'Shan :)

They are going to go Jihad on the reapers when they find out that they exterminated the Enkindlers!!

One thing to figure out:

Are the people who are illegally trying to tinker with the relays simply curious, or are they really indoctrinated slaves of the Reapers trying to make sure they work when they decide to attack?

Well considering that this occurs after news breaks that the relays aren't Prothean, I would say it's more likely that's its people and organizations who are curious or have a myriad of other agendas.

External threats?

They know about the Reapers, has to be.

Also, good to see humanity finally getting along with the turians. I always liked them.

The prospect of racial annihilation tends to make one set aside his less important concerns.

Wooooooahhhh Nelly... The Fit's really hitting the Shan all of a sudden.

Couple things that were of high interest to me:

Hanar priest equating the "Enkindlers" of the Protheans as "Even more noble beings." Will the Hanar side with the Reapers when they appear? What would an army of Hanar zealots look like? Do they have any means of threatening the other galactic civilizations?

Traffic ground to a halt just from the increased speculation around the Mass Relays: A foreshadowing of a shutdown of the entire Mass Relay network? The Reapers have done it before, might do it again.

Batarian Interest in Mass Relay Research: I haven't been keeping up with the theories on the Batarians, but this seems strange to me. Why would they care about the mass relays? Especially why would the care about the Doc's research? Do they know more about the reapers than they're letting on? Are THEY developing some kind of weapon to fight the bug-gods all on their own? I knew they were going to be a factor in the DLC, but WHY is something I don't know yet.

About the reapers shutting down the relays....

They'd need to get to the Citadel to do that.  That's what Sovereign was trying to do in ME1.  So we have some time.  At all costs, the Reapers have to be stopped short of the Citadel, or everyone dies.

Hackett is definitely with Cerberus.

I always suspected that Cerberus never really split from the Alliance completely, and that the upper echelons of Alliance command (for example, Hackett) know this and continue to work with them. Cerberus does what red-tape stops the Alliance from doing. When the Alliance couldn't assist Shepard in working to stop the Reapers they had Cerberus take over. The way Hackett slapped a stern DENIED over the Major's proposal to take Shepard in for questioning was very suspicious, and now this, as if he knows the Reapers are about to arrive...

Maybe I'm being a bit too presumptuous, and the reality could be very droll indeed. I hope it isn't though.

I had the same read when I saw Hackett's correspondence.  I figured he was at least allowing Shepard to work with Cerberus unimpeded, since they were the only ones that could do anything about the problem.

He may also be working with Anderson in this matter.  In the vid archives on the Shadow Broker ship, there is a clip of Anderson meeting with a Cerberus guy.

Outstanding OP. Thanks, CyanidPontifex.

Speculation: Looks like the Batarians have been duped by the Reapers and are helping them find a way in. That would be consistent with the Earth getting attacked first.

Good theory. We know that the Batarian Hemegony (spelling?) is a xenophobic, totalitarian, rogue state like North Korea irl. Government like this are often violent, and agressive (and whiny). The Batarians blame humanity for all of their problems and could easily be manipulated by the Reapers. The Reapers would destroy humanity in exchange for a way into the Milky Way. This could explain the Batarian military's interest in mass relays

Batarians are looking more and more like they have been co-opted by the Reapers. I've been expecting this since Saren and Anderson went to that refinery in Batarian space.

If that's true (which I'm starting to believe it is) then atleast the galactic community will have a reason for turning Kar'Shan into a glass parking lot.

The Reapers getting an ally in the Batarians makes sense - the leadership could even fracture along this issue, and one of your missions in ME3 could revolve around aiding Batarians that want to fight the Reapers.

I find it so strange that they capitalize the Protheans, but they don't capitalize arthenn or zeioph.

I don't "hate" the Batarians, but they are soooooooooo set up to be the bad guys in this game.

They're slavers. They're terrorists. They fight wars by proxy.

Remember the girl on the docks in ME1 if you're a colonist Shepard? Talking about how her parents were melted in front of her, then the rape, abuse and implants?

Another example is the Batarian spitting hate at you as he's dying of the plague in Mordin's recruitment mission. I'm half surprised they don't wear black tophats and have long, curled mustaches.

Now they're going to be dupes too, unleashing the Reapers on the galaxy.

I'm not alone in saying that I'd buy a Mass Effect DLC just for that, regardless of the price am I?

Unless they find out the Collectors were once the Protheans. Than Shepard becomes the target of many drell assassins. After all, the Hanar can't do crap unless they're beneath the waves of Kahje. This is the impression I get when I speak to Thane. In fact, I'm sure he actually states it.

I just had a thought: Blasto comes after us. (snickers)

Speaking of Blasto, anyone else think that's supposed to be a mild insult directed at both humanity and the Hanar? (You know, human Spectre becomes delusional, incites panic, etc.)

All I know is this: I already have the points ready, and I am going to get this the first hour its available. (Unless I'm asleep, for some awful reason).

Interesting. On a potentially unrelated note, 413, 612 and LOWAS references? Is someone on the CDN writing staff a Homestuck fan?
