I admit I only recognize the first two of those Kanji, but  I have a pretty good guess what you're getting at. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]

And as someone that has yet to romance Fenris, I can't disagree.

:D he is, he is....

One thing I think not many folk realize... Just because you are the bottom does not necessarily make you submissive just as being a top does not necessarily make you dominant.

I'm a hetero female but I played a m/m Anders romance and I was talking to my best friend (a gay man) about this very thing the other day.  To me, it looks like Hawke fills what many people would consider the "masculine" role of the relationship, but I get a definite "bottom" impression from the romance scenes, and I found that public opinion vs private reality aspect endearing.

So I did get a smirk from Gamlen's "Anders must be the girl" innuendo and thought to myself, "Heh.  I wouldn't bet money on that, if I were you."

I got the same impression as you though I prefer the term "dominant" to "masculine". I never liked using gender specific terms to denote dominance or submissiveness. In today's culture feminine does not necessarily mean submissive just as masculine does not necessarily mean dominant. Being feminine does not in any way make you weak or submissive (not that you are saying that just explaining my view). just as being masculine does not in any way make you strong or dominant. For many gay men and women... we tend to have a mix of masculine and feminine qualities... so the roles we take on (dominant, submissive or something inbetween) aren't as simple to figure out and often take time to develop. Me personally? I like being cooperative :)

Be thankful as a heterosexual female that you have some guidelines at least to help you figure out what role suits you best :) Not that I advocate anyone locking themselves into some predetermined mold... but there must be some comfort in having a reference point to look at and decide if it fits you.

You know, with all that latent aggression I'd have thought he'd have been on top, but from the fem side (rivalmance) he's the one that got pinned up against the wall....

Looks like Bioware agrees.

If you're a male, snarky Hawke can ask if his penis was too large when Fenris is uncomfortable after getting his memories back. Dooooooooooooouche.

I dunno about Anders.

Notice my use of quotes and the context of "masculine" within my original post; it was in reference to the public view of their respective relationship roles...not my personal stance on the matter.

Of course :)

I was a little bit confused when my female mage!Hawke pinned Fenris to the wall actually. She was all sweet and peaceful and unassuming and then she's pinning him to the wall? Eh, not how I would have seen it working out between the two but maybe it's just because Fenris is all inexperienced like that?
I agree with people who say Anders would probably be more open to experimenting. Why settle with just top/bottom when you have counters, walls, etc. ;)

Why would you assume Fenris is inexperienced?
I am pretty sure Danarius was using him for sex because he says something like he is very skilled when you choose to defend Fenris.

I don't have the game handy but if you flirt with Fen in Act 2 (with M!Hawke) he says something to the tune '... with you it could be different...' (someone find me the full dialogue please...!)

yeah, for example when you first get to flirt with Anders (after the Karl-episode), if you're a male, he tells how him and Karl were lovers - you don't get this as female

Because there's dialogue where Fenris tells Hawke something along the lines of not wanting people to physically touch him because of his markings. To me that implies that he hasn't ever sought out anyone for sex before. (In fact, I remember one of the questions Hawke could ask was "Well was there anyone in your life before the markings?") Which could still mean he was used as a sex slave I suppose but even then, he'd still be inexperienced. There's a huge difference between willing and unwilling sex imo.

I disagree with this. I think he has not sought anyone out for feelings before, just sex. And as Gamer above says, certainly Danarius used Fen for sex, it is very much implied in the conversations you have with him when you want to romance him.

This :°D
When I saw the thread the first time I thought it was some place unpleasant and homophobic that would be closed in a matter of hours.
At page 4 i decided to check...this is epic :°D

He can be bottom being on top. 'nuff said.

I'm pretty sure both Anders and Fenris can be pretty dominant, they have a lot of repressed passion to vent xD

Applying heteronormative standards to pairs? I can hardly imagine why.

Although, I would say Anders is probably the older.

OK OK...LOL, I'm new to this website don't know what is considered "acceptable".

年下攻 is a Yaoi term which literaraly means " younger guy is seme". The term later brench out not just indicate age, but body type as well. so in a Yaoi relationship, if the Seme/top partner is younger, or smaller in body build compare to the uke/bottome partner, he's considered 年下攻 (usually the age/body type difference needs to be very obvious to use the term)。

Now that I wrote it out, it doesn't sound nearly as offensive as I'd imagine...LOL it's just I get the impression a lot of people take offensive when it comes to yaoi. But we're already discussing who's top who's bottom, so I shouldn't worry at all.
