I just downloaded and installed BG 2. When
i go to run it it says that since this is the first time i am playing i
have to config the game, but it does not bring me to the config. So i
go in the game file and open BGConfig and set what i want. I try to
launch the game and it still says that i have to config the game. I try pressing the Configure button in the launcher and nothing happens.  I have
tried running it as administrator, still wont work. I put it in Win XP
mode, still nothing. I am running Win 7.
Please if anyone can help me?

First off, have you installed the lastest patch? If you haven't make sure you do before you try anything else.

Someone else might know a better work around, but you can edit the baldur.ini file so that the line "First Run=1" is set instead to "First Run=0" but if you installed into program files than windows 7 is a big pain in the rear to give yourself admin permission to edit this. I can link you to a page that can walk you through it, or you can simply install it somewhere else. If you do end up installing to a different location, or you already have, make sure you press the "Compatibility Files" button up top in the folder where baldur.ini is and than edit the .ini file or you won't make any changes.

Good luck :)

A couple of things - when you login to the computer, make sure it's with an account with admin rights.

If you installed to the default location, I'd recommend uninstalling then deleting that directory. Create a directory NOT in "program files" or "program files(x86)". something like c:\\games\\bg2-soa\\ or something like that and install there.

Also, turn UAC completely off when installing and playing.

I've played on Win7 on two different laptops and never had any sort of problem doing the above steps.

I have seen comments that the downloadable game is already patched.

It does sound like you've installed to a protected location where ini & save files are managed from a compatibility function. If you install to a location as suggested by Dante2377 you're probably OK without admin rights and leaving UAC enabled.

I patched it up and now when I launch the game from the launcher it works, up in tell i press new game. Then it asked me to put in CD 2. But with it being a Download I don't have a CD. But I found that if I launch it with BGmain it will work. I think it is a Impulse thing. That is where i downloaded it from.

That's probably an effect of the patch. See this link.

Don't know if this is really the right thread for me, but I have a problem, too...
My husband and I are playing BGII + ToB ever now and then.... now there's the problem that once opened areas close before we reach them. Don't know the English names, but the "Windspeerhügel" with Jirdan Fierkraag and the Umar Hills both had this problem... we could save the Windspeerhügel the first time with taking a quite old savefile, just directly after talking to Fierkraag in the Copper Coronet, and walked then right to this area. Once reached the areas seem to stay opened. But we couldn't finish at this point in game and returned to free the slaves in the slums underground... now it's the same game with the umar hills - the area is grey, we can no longer reach it. Can someone give us a hint what we can do?

If you go to the city gates and exit from there do they un-grey?

Failing that you could enable the console with Debug Mode=1 in the Program Options of the Baldur.ini file. Activate it by holding down CTRL then press SPACE and type CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("AR1200") for Windspear or AR1100 for Umar.

If you installed to the default location in Vista/Windows 7 you'll need to go to the standard version of the ini file but then edit the compatibility version, accessed like this.
