Is there a chance that future dlc will be filling in some of the timejumps? And since at least one jump takes place before recruiting most of your party, would that mean some temporary companions?

If the DLC would fill in the years between each jump, I'd rather see them flesh out the companions we already have instead of introducing even more characters.

I agree with this completely. I was honestly disappointed how in a lot of the Origins dlc we just got pretty flimsy characters that were mainly there to advance the plot. More character development of the ones we know of would be awesome.

One way of getting to use the DA2 companions would be to make only, say, three of the available for any given DLC. That way you won't have to hire the entire VA cast for a piece of DLC. Would make developing them cost inefficient.

Otherwise, yeah, its going to be temporary companions.

I REALLY want them to fill in the first year. They can develop the sibling story a lot more and the only other companion is aveline. So only really need to hire 3 VAs again plus extras.

Carver has a chip on his shoulder but i'm sure when push comes to shove he'll still be in hawke's corner. I'd like to see that.

The constant need to protect Bethany can be played up a lot, since kirkwall is crawling with Templars there might even be a quest where hawke has to either murder/bribe/befriend one in order to keep Bethany safe. (to keep continuity maybe that templar gets killed later or is transferred out of kirkwall).

There is also the story of the three merchants (tomwise, worthy, elegant) and how hawke became their friends.

So much happens in the first year. :)

I would LOVE to be able to spend more time with the sibling during that missing year. And since you can be working for one of two groups, it can still be different when you play it a second time.

So how would they deal with your level and abilities if DLC is based around untold events? I think it's more likely that DLC will simply extend the story...

Well if you start a new game, I suppose you could just seamlessly go into it....but yeah it would be hard if you've already completed a game.

This.

If they're going to fill in time jumps then let us use our regular companions. Adding new companions who are only going to stick around for a few quests would be a complete waste.

The second poster said it best. If the DLC takes place during the course of the main game, then I want my actual companions. Especially since a good number of people likely killed off my favorite character, meaning his chances of returning for anything post-game have to be pretty slim. *sigh* I'm very selfish tonight, apparently.

This as well. It wouldn't make sense to have temp companion for no apparent reasons. It'll raise the question of: where did they go afterward? what happened to the 5-6 comapanions we got already? they ALL became unavilable for some unknown reason?

you know...and it's more practical to use the existing companions anyways

I mainly ment temporary companions for the jump that happens before you get to recruit most of your party, the first year where you work for the smuglers or the other guys. Where you just have your sibling and maybe aveline (unless she's too busy being a guard)

Level and abilities don't change the story, you could cheat and make your hawke level 50 in act one and all that does is change how easy the enemies are. The story is completely unaffected.

So for any new DLC, even if its the past, i see no problem with importing a strong hawke. The game just has to readjust enemy difficulty. Its not like the people of kirkwall are going to yell out: "HEY!!! you've got armor that hasn't been invented yet!!"

You can also get jackloads of unlockables in the game and from the black emporium, no one bats an eyelash that a ferelden refugee is running around with a staff of Parlathan.

So whats the problem with a DLC on untold events?

Varric can just say "its only a story" if the listener complains hawke couldn't have gotten so powerful early on.

oh. the first year. I thought you were referring to the 2 separate 3 year gap...

I for one would love DLC(s) that talks about those 2 separate 3 years...other than that...eh...becuase the way I see it...the first year is gonna be very much like Act 1, doing odd end jobs.

Well I assumed if there's dlc for those gaps we'd get to use our normal companions, I just wondered if we'd get temp ones if the first year was filled in. I'd also love to see those big gaps filled in, but those would have our normal companions.

I would love to do the first year tho because it would let us spend more time with the sibling before they go away (maybe even a few chances to get friendship/rivalry so that getting carver friendship is less ass hard)

I hope they have a mini expansion.

Year 1 can give us temporary companions with the Red Irons or the Smugglers.

Then the others could be more character focused.

Ah, I see where you're getting at. I guess you might've felt Carver/Bethany never had a chance to have their character properly developed within the story? my main concern is those big gaps, because I think there are more stories to tell and it's easier for the writers I'm sure. Especially with the 2nd gap, death and romance, what happened in between? How did Hawke reconcile with her feelings towards things that happened, you know things like that. I see that the first year having some potential, but personally I'm not going to hold my breath with that one
