I really enjoy that the forum only takes up 1/3rd of my screen. It's really useful...not. It feels cramped as hell.

QFT... on high res it is rediculously small

At least the text size is a bit of an improvement to the Mass Effect forums.

Personally I prefer IPBoard forums (e.g. Bethesda) plain and simple.
The old Bioware forums had their quirks but were still tolerable.

Testing this "Beta" forum on the audience of a newly released game is a bad idea.

I don't see what the problem is. If the text is too small, just use your browsers zoom function. And while the ability to mark threads in various ways would be nice, I haven't had any problems so far

It's a question of line-length, not of char size. 1/3 of the forum's fixed size is occupied by advertisement and chunky avatars. As I said, the ME forum are bad this one is just "could be larger".

The main index of each forum showing avatars is a bad idea, though, as topics drop from the first page much faster than usual.

The only thing I dislike about this forum are the ENOURMOUS close-up avatars. I'm not talking about CC created characters, I mean the low-res Shepard and Duncan pictures.

For Pete's sake, download the CC, make a character, and upload the pic.

If you're using Firefox, you can download Stylish as a stop-gap.  For example, I'm using this CSS code for now:

@-moz-document domain("social.bioware.com")
{
  .SEPForumTextOutput
  {
    background-color: black !important;
    color: white !important;
    font-size: small !important;
  }
}

This just sets the background color to black (instead of grey), the text color to white (instead of grey), and the font size to small (instead of the tiny size they are using).

I do love my good old Bio OT forums appearance, but I personally found the white/brown look of the old DAO forums far worse than this and I could tolerate that.

Yes, some more themes and choices in appearance for forums would be nice. That's all that I'm gonna say, it's not really straining my eyes. I only run at 1280x1024, so I guess I'm not in the group developing eye-cancer.

This forum hurts my eyes alot less than the old red and WHITE!!!! forum did. The spacing seems so far made to accomodate a lower screen resolution or something? Lots of dead space but w/e ... I love my avatar!

They are really plain...uniform and similar colors... not a huge deal though.

The main problem is that they don't scale to a resolution which is surprising...as this should be one of the main things done on a forum...to keep things from breaking the cells.. (at least in my opinion)

The CTRL+ zoom is helpful.

I think once we start seeing our characters images update in the social network, then we will see some of the advantages to the change.

Give it a chance.... we can not all use windows 3.1 for ever :)

I find CTRL with mouse wheel more convenient. It's instant zoom in/out. :)

As for the topic... the site feels cramped, overly complex and in lack of useful forum features (filter dev posts is sorely missed). Being this a BETA, I trust/HOPE it will get improved sooner rather than later.

I suppose I can understand why the text boxes have a lower limit on vertical size - they have to leave enough room for those huge avatar pictures.

Right there, that's what is bugging me most... I want to be able to scale the size of the avatars myself, or them to be reduced by 2/3 of their size.

If you zoom out, you can see the edges of the background picture... This seems kinda unprofessional to me. Should not happen...

well it is a social site dedicated to our player characters. Not just a bulletin board for game discussion. It's all new to me so I will give it a chance.

I also think the openness of custom projects is great for the game being worked right in with the social site. Is this more like what you all get from the console things web links?

These forums are an eyesore. The font, the color, the background. Everything.

<---- Can we get rid of that ME2 side bar thing and move it somewhere else so that you there's more breathing room for the font to be a little bigger?

What I don't understand is why there's so much wasted space. If you're running a widescreen resolution it's half empty and half text. Shrink down the giant boxes around the giant avatars, ditch the emptiness on either sides and the text wouldn't look so tiny.

There is too little contrast between the background and the text. It's also common knowledge that a light text a dark background increases eye strain; this should only be done for situations where the text is being read in low-light conditions or where there is a minimal amount of text - not on a forum.

The overall design is far too bloated imo. Avatars are far too large, these "facebook-ish" buttons clash with the design and there is absolutely no need to take up 150px of horizontal space by displaying a useless account menu.

I know this has been said alot of times, but I have to say it again. I can't stay on this forum for more that 10 minuts, after my eyes starts to hurt in a strange way.. So, either biware have to change the forum, or I simply can't use the social forum..... Witch is a shame

You sure that has nothing to do with your monitor? There can be a distortion/tremble in the screen that cannot or can barely see, but if it's there it'll drive you freakin' nuts. Check the Refresh rate of your monitor (Hz) and toggle around with it a bit. Even though you can hardly notice a wrong setup, you'll definitely notice the correct one.

If you already knew about this and know your monitor isn't the cause of your eyes starting to hurt... then I'm sorry. Don't wanna sound like a smart-*bleep*.

I have to agree, these forums are so cramped, and contain way to much info / linkage...

If I am coming to the forum, I just wanna cruise easily the latest threads and beable to track my posts and such... Not try to go through pages of cramped text.
