Anybody got some tips on these buggers?

Everytime I come across them they just tear me up.  It looks like they have boss level health and their poison is liquid death.  Plus those little buggers are fast.  I bet they have some seriously high dex levels.  If they are anything like the shapeshifting form in Origins I know they have high dex.

Anyways they seem to shrugg off all elemental dmg and the poison hits you like load of bricks.

I'm currently going to kill the Elven Assassin in Sundermount and there are like 6 of them that spawn in front of the cave entrance.

And they just love me.  They'll chase me down to the ends of the earth.

What difficulty? On Nightmare all spiders are immune to nature (which makes Merill's special tree super usefull on the Varterral (sp?) quest). On hard, upgraded firestorm in the middle of the party combined with goad and taunt worked well. I think I also had to use Armstice so they would leave Anders alone.

It's on hard.  I've been dropping upgraded firestorm on them and paralyzing them, but it doesn't really phase them.  That's if they trigger the glyph.  About half of them do and they other half run me down before I get finished casting the spell.

I have a 3 mage, 1 rogue team.

Yea on Nightmare, they wipe the floor with my crew. Merrill is completely weak against them, they are definitely her kryptonite lol.

Glyph of Paralysis, Horror, Petrify, Cone of Cold, and a two-handed warrior (vanguard, berserker and 1 point in blood frenzy) with 100% cold resistence. BAAAAAM dead spiders!

Petrify, Paralyze and Freeze the poison spiders, but remember to use taunt on Aveline, or your Hawke if he is a shield warrior. Have all the group target the same poison spider, leave the normal ones till the end.

An archer is good to have also, preferably Varric as the Bianca line has some very useful skills against the spiders.

Cluster them around Aveline, drop walking bomb on one, focus fire to blow the guy with walking bomb up. Since the bomb deals 100% of creature's max hp and they're all identical, it kills them all in single swoop.

Works for 90% or so encounters in the game, actually...

I'm having a hard time with them. I use glyph, sleep, horror, Aveline as tank and dps archer.

The problem is they stun with every shot. The last two efforts they picked a seperate target each.

I'll get around them, but it's extremly annoying that they have stun ability and a high rate of fire.

I would say the best thing to do is get Aveline on them. She wasn't stunned by the poison spit for me on nightmare, I think it was because I had the talent that gives her 100% immunity to stuns. If they attack anyone else on Nightmare they get stunlocked FOREVER. The poison spit stun lasts like...3-5 secs? And the casting time for it is like 1-2 secs? It's pretty crazy.

I picked up a ring with stun immunity from the shady dealer in the Docks in Act 3. It's pretty cheap, 7 gold or so? I put it on Aveline so kinda didn't even notice if they'd stun.

I know,  horror, paralyze and petrify only holds them for less then their stun time. Well petrify holds them a bit longer, but not much. Cheap enemies. They were stunning Avaline for some reason, but not always, even though she has stun immunity. Perhaps ots bugged for me. She seemed to hold up fine last time though, so go figure.

Has anyoen tested nature resistance runes against them?  I'm assuming the poison is nature dmg sense it was in orgins.

I don't know wtf is up with the wasp spiders in Merrill's mirror image sidequest. Their HP is like 10x any other monster in act 2. I'm still getting served by them and I'm level 17 in nightmare.

When I read your topic title I immediately thought: "Eugh I hate those things"

Only real advise I can give is just team them. Since you're using 3 mages and a rogue, consider giving 1 (or multiple) mages a full primal tree. Upgraded petrify will make the enemy unable to attack and take 30% more damage, then just have your rogue attack it from behind for some massive damage.

Upgraded Petrify (Dessicate) just lowers the damage penalty from Petrify which is 50%  by 30%, so they would still take 20% less damage then normal (not counting the +50% crit damage on brittle).

I assume the 30% is an absolute value, and not a multiplicative value because then you'd only get 15% more damage with Dessicate on a petrified target.

Yeah, the Vatteral was a 'wind me down' battle in comaparison. Though, the first time (and only) I fought it, a rock fell from 'the sky' and killed Anders not .5 seconds into the fight. It was awesome.

For the spiders, just put 2 ranged characters up above the battle area, one above the steps, and send Avaline head long into the thick of it. I just got lucky with how the spiders chose to target. It took three attempts before I was lucky.

My bad then. I did find petrify made even some insane battles a lot more doable. If nothing else your enemy won't move for a while, meaning you can take full advantage of the damage bonus when attacking from behind.

Ok I'm a idiot.
the wasp spiders poison spit is nature damage, I thought it was physical damage because it knocks you back.

Once you upgrade your nature resistance they are piece of cake. Elemental Aegus upgrade works wonders.

Cool, was wondering about the nature dmg.  I fugured it was sense the shapeshifting form in Origins was nature dmg.
