What I think is going on here is that the health bars are re-scaling to accurately show the amount of health to make it easy to see from a glance who needs to be kept out of close combat. If you check the amount of health each character has you should see that they have substantially less health than your Hawk. If they don't then this is a bug though I haven't seen companions whith the same amount of health get a smaller health bar.

In DA:O the health bars were the same size but bigger chunks got taken out for those that had less health

I'm running into the same problem. It's weird and it only happens when I have Aveline or another warrior in my party. Any other time everyone's health gauge looks normal.

Mana AND spell bars are reduced if your character has a Tactic that uses those points, so they are 'kept in reserve'. This is why you can actually see if those characters are using those type of spells and de-activate them as you walk around non-hostile locations. My lady spellcaster Merrill's magic bar (blue) is almost always HALF. So I have her tactics replenish her with potions at 50%. There's a remarkable poultice that cures ailments, injuries and all health points in the Emporium that I use frequently.

That's what I think is going on too. I checked mine when I first noticed the visual change and the health amounts in the stat screens are the same. It's definitely more noticeable with a warrior in the party b/c they tend to have more health.

By-Tor, I know that about mana, that's a given for mages. But I was talking about having a rogue in the party, a mage, and another rogue, and then you include someone like Aveline or Fenris and then everyone's health bars and stamina/mana bars look tiny in comparison.

It's just a way to visually compare the health and mana pools between characters. Like, if Hawke has 200 health and Anders has 100, Hawkes health bar should be twice as big as Anders's.

The size of your bar is relative to the health of the party member with the highest amount of hp. If you have 500hp and everyone else has 100 they will all have very tiny bars wheras if you have 200 and they have 100 their bar will be much larger.

It's just a way to keep the health bars ratio'd properly without having enormous bars on your screen in later acts.

Ding ding. Whats happenin to you guys is that when you bring a warrior into your party they will most likely have the most health, so their max health becomes the standard to compare the others too. Your not loosin health at all, its just the system adjusting your healthbar to compare it to your companions, and also your other companions health bars will change size in accordance. I had same thin happen, check your stats, health will be the same
