Looking for an effecient build for Isabela during my 2nd Nightmare playthrough.
The main question I have is how to assign her attributes between Dex and Cun, I hear a lot of differing opinions regarding this.
I think Goad/Corral is too important to pass up, other than that I'm all ears, whether it be Max DPS or a Disorient build(I play a SnS warrior)
Thanks.
Need help with Isabela builds (Nightmare)

She's so fragile and always tries to be in the thick of it on Nightmare, if you're deadset on using her you should pick up every defensive talent she has. Get Goad + Corral, Back-to-Back (with stealth upgrade), Improved Evade (AOE stun on her backflip), and Savy+Upgrade. I would also suggest changing her behavior off of aggressive to either cautious or defensive so you can position her yourself.
I imagine she'll need a healthy amount of constitution in addition to cunning.

If you are going to be using Assault and Scatter, and I can't think of a reason you wouldn't be, Fatiguing Fog should absolutely be a priority.

Just to let you know, I finished my Legit 2h warrior Hawke playthrough using All ranged companions(Varric/Anders/Merrill) and I've effectively made Isabela immune to my own Friendly Fire, via a mod during this playthrough.
Thanks for the input, she's still fragile.

If you want her to have more reliable utility than dps, you might consider giving her +health trinkets instead of damage-oriented ones and sacrifice some dexterity for constitution to improve her survivability. Abilities always hit anyway (like Fatiguing Fog or the improved All Hands on Deck for the stuns).

Talent up her special tree as it will mitigate her incoming damage quite a bit.

I'm not playing nightmare, but I've got Aveline using her bodyguard skill on Isabella. Now I'm finding that Isabella's survivability has increased 10-fold while dealing substantial damage. Downside is that I've put a ton of points in to Aveline's constitution at the cost of her attack, but she's meant to be the tank anyway.

"Talent up my special tree." I'm sure she's actually said that in-game.

I think you have to use Isa' like you'd use your own DW rogue, with lots of micro-management. When I first started using her she died all the time, so I re-specced her and placed a lot of emphasis on her defensive talents, but her damage output was miserable for a rogue and she still died loads.
Because DW rogues attack so quickly it's easy to just dodge attacks from melee enemies. You don't need to actively control her all the time, just keep her relatively near who you are controlling and when you see an enemy start to attack her pause, switch to her and order her to move (just circle the enemy, you don't have to run away/kite) then switch back to your other character and unpause. She'll dodge the swing and then start attacking again as soon as she moves into position.
Archers are the biggest pain in the ass for her though, they never miss, even if you're behind them when they fire, it's irritating to say the least. She makes a mockery out of slow hitters like 2 handed using reavers
What's more important than raising her defense, is giving her ways to lose threat, Stealth, upgraded Back to Back, Subtlety and Miasmic Flask are very important. A good DPS helps too, the quicker she kills an enemy the less you'll have to dodge.

Running_Blind is correct -- from my experience -- that DW rogues need a lot of hand-holding to be at their most effective at higher difficulties. I'll admit that I've no claim to being a great writer of tactics ... but Isabella and my own DW rogue proved more difficult than the others. DPS tactics aren't difficult to manage -- saving her own arse is difficult. I keep her flasks and stealth off of her tactics and try to watch her carefully else they get wasted or used in a manner that creates a greater mess of things.

Instead of starting a new thread, Im gonna necro this thread.
Im planning on making a two-hander warrior with Isabela, varric/sebastian/merril, and Anders/bethany team on my next playthrough. I want my two hander warrior hawke to be the only warrior on the field to have better combos with the rogues and mages.
Either my two hander will be sole tank or tank with merril. the bottom line is that there will be at least "one" tank. With that said, I would like to try my hand at using Isabela (for a challenge) to complement my warrior. What kind of spec should I make my Isabela? Im looking for minimal hand holding for her...

Isabela's build depends on what your running. The above mentioned advice about bodyguard from aveline may be key.
My isabela would normally have Fatiguing Fog, 3-5 in scoundrel, DW including lacerate for dps, then fil in some with her personal tree, mainly the passives for big boosts.
