Arcane Warrior is pretty powerful, with a single point invested. Mages can wear heavy armor and be significantly more durable without combat magic on, in exchange for a nominal increase in spell cost, and still be effective casters.

With the tree fully fleshed out, combat magic on, and running all the toggles available to you (Shimmering shield/rock armor/arcane shield/miasma/death magic/flaming weapon) you become the single most unkillable character in the game with reasonably good damage output.   You wont be casting much...spellcasting under this mode does become prohibitively expensive, but nothing in the game, on normal difficulty, short of the most extreme circumstances can kill you...they simply can't damage you fast enough, or at all. Certain Regen items can make you effectively invulnerable.

A large part of this is the fact that Shimmering Shield, a wildly powerful defensive buff seems bugged. Like other spells that drain mana over time it should shut off, but it doesnt. It is effectively perma. Even without it, the AW could have a higher Armor ability to soak damage than any warrior. With it, you can't really be touched.

If you add Blood Mage spec in on top of this, not only are you effectively invulnerable outside of the *rare* incidents you get dispelled in the game, you are an effective melee-er, AND you can cast offensive magic at will, killing entire roomfulls of enemies. You are so powerful, you can cast inferno into a room, then wade into the inferno and melee opponents to death, laughing the entire time because nothing can hurt you. You have no weaknesses at all. It is completely broken.

seems like a waste to me, but that's personal preference. I gave my mages arcane warrior, but never used it. Although Morrigan liked to switch to her sword (weapon slot2) sometimes. I couldn't seem to eliminate that from her ai.

Why go up to the mobs when you can nuke them from afar? yes yes, I know. It's a matter of personal taste. Some people may enjoy that playstyle. But it seems less efficient that way.

Being an unkillable juggernaught killing people at will without expending any magic or having to worry about casting spells or managing a mana pool is somehow *less* efficient?

If you want to be unkillable and nuke on top of that, go AW/Blood Mage. Its completely broken, but theres no denying its very efficient.  God mode is always efficient.

Personally I made Wynne a Paladine. She already has spirit healer and i tossed on the AW. When she needs to use a blade she does well. I took spells that stun or stone. Stone first for shattering and I heal and buff the party. I never have to worry about her being killed instantly. I dont use her for dmg cept for the instant kill but she shines with 2 warriors and a rogue and haste on. You want to hack and slash your way to a win fast without the fancy spellcasting thats the way to go.

Have you set her Stance to be Ranged instead of Default?

It is the upper right corner of the Tactics screen.
