I'm curious how the system works. Some encounters have a leader type (say, Hadrianna in Feneris' Act II quest) who will summon addtional enemies as the encounter goes on. If you kill her quickly enough, the encounter ends prior to all the waves appearing.
As a point for comparison: The Hadrianna encounter ended with 616XP for me, while equiped with items giving +3%XP.

Does anyone know if it is time or HP bar based, or both? Also, do you get more experience by letting the enemy summon additional creatures?

Another question involves scaling- ie, will a given encounter always result in Y XP, or if you encounter it later will it result in more? I'm thinking of the gang encounters in Act I as an example.

Given the way equipment works in this game, I dont' think its necessarily to a player's advantage to milk encounters for max XP, as that results in the Uniques becoming underpowered relative to the drops. I'm mainly wondering if anyone knows how BW designed it.
