Anders, Fenris, and Merrill have some of the cruelest (if not entirely unwarranted) interactions of the whole game during Merill's final quest.  I give the characters points for consistency, but, dang, that was cold:(

Yeah, no kidding.

"I'm sorry your keeper died.."
"She was like a mother to me. Thanks."
"I'm sorry she died for you."
":crying:"

I find that when they all hate each other it's a little tiring to listen to. Especially without an option for Hawke to interrupt and tell them to shut up already. I generally like to have Varric or Isabela around to keep things more cheerful between the arguments. I remember at one point Isabela even scolded Fenris a little for making a particularly cruel remark to Merrill during one of her personal quests.

What does she say exactly and when? I'd like to check it out in-game. Isabela and Merrill's sis-mance is <3

And yes, there were a few times where I wish my Hawke could have stepped in and told them all to shut it. He doesn't have very much patience with bickering companions.

QFT

or as I call them, Team Awesome.  That's how I rolled on my first playthrough.

I prefer having:
Bethany-Merrill,
Varric and Isabela and Isabela with the "back to back" skill, it looks cool how they both seathe the daggers at the same time.

Have those three in the party when you've slept with Fenris and dumped him for Anders. Oh my, hate is a fun thing to listen to.

Yeesh

Hawke: I'm sorry Merrill...
Anders: That was the bravest thing I've ever seen anyone ever do.
Anders: The world's poorer for having you instead of her in it.
Fenris: *agrees with Anders*
Merrill: *clings to Hawke sobbing*

Although I slightly like and dislike Anders dialogue when exiting.

He tells Merrill she has a second chance, to fix everything, which is nice.
But then he also implies I believe, to stop using Blood Magic, which just furthers his self-righteousness.

Merri + Fenris + Anders = best possible party composition for Rogue Hawke on Nightmare mode.

Bethany is not an option because she has no Revive spell and no access to Primal CCC spells.

I actually did use that party for most of the game. As a rogue Hawke, having Fenris stagger everyone for me to explode was too great to pass up, and double-mages was irresistible too.

I didn't bring them on Merril's quest, though. I knew they'd be cruel and I just didn't want to witness that. Though having Anders at 100% friendship and Fenris at 100% rivalry changed their interactions some, I think.

Isabela, Varric, and Fenris = Team Snark

Fenris, Anders, and Merrill = Team Hate

Carver, Anders, and Fenris = Team Whiny Babies

Anders, Sebastian, and Merrill = Team Fanatics.

I love my teams.

This is why I like to change around my party at times so you get all the different interactions and relationships.

Nice, but you forgot one:

Isabela, Varric, Merrill = Team Love.

Come one, their affection for each other is cavitiy inducing. ^_^

Sebastian and Fenris were keepers for me. I loved their banter. Aveline won me over with her concerns for Wesley. Punching that darkspawn was epic. Only used the other companions for their related quests.

I became addicted to Aveline, Fenris and Sebastian on my second run (the one I actually finished). Its odd how what would seem like such different characters got on so well.

This run I'm trying Aveline, Anders and Varric. Not so much fun tbh - I wanted to see if exposure to Anders made me like him more. I'm about to hit Act (Chapter, Part) 2 - I'm seeing some options in this thread I'd like to try. Its certainly not too late to respec my mage to heal ;-)

I totally agree.  I could've cried for poor Merrill when I heard some of the things those two were saying to her.  It made me want to have my Lady Hawke break up with Anders for being such a jerk, but you know, that option wasn't available.

Regardless, they make an awesome team for combat.

I only used Fenris on and off and I never use Anders unless I have to (he's just not as interesting as he was in Awakenings, and he was already annoying enough then...).
But I love the way Varric, Isabella, and Aveline all watch out for Merrill. Funniest bit of banter is Merrill telling Varric that he reminds her of a dalish story teller, only it turns out they're nothing alike. Then she tries to impersonate Varric with a gruff voice! Priceless! Varric is great all around and Isabella is fun even though her banter and scenes just point out how incredibly filthy she is.

I agree with Naughty99.. Fenris, Anders and Merril- the awesome party for a rogue! I kept this party throughout the game for the main reason that I liked their personalities best, but the power of this team in battle is amazing. As for the "team hate" aspect-- I liked this because it made me process harder the moral issues between mages/templars. It made decisions more complex and emotional for me, honestly. I still struggle in my beliefs about what to do about the situation and I honestly still don't know but had to pick sides.

My first Hawke wouldn't have dumped him for it (she didn't even knife him for blowing up the Chantry, she is a forgiving lady) but I would've liked a "Shut up, Anders, not now" option. I admit, my second Hawke totally agreed with Fenris and Anders on the subject of Merril (rivalmance ftw) but he was never so rude to say it straight up like that.

I love bring Fenris ans Anders together, especially in Act III. They do really show hatred on each other's belief. I dunno why but I like seeing conflicts between companions (including Carver and Hawke). I guess I'm tired of seeing all loving caring relationships. Oh, that explains why rivalmance is more appealing to me

My team. I also enjoy subbing Varric for Aveline in the third act, just to hear Merrill squeal "Ew!" about the thumb-up-his-ass bit of banter. But I never keep the party like that; Leaving Varric out is like stepping on a rusty nail.

I'm personally a big fan of Fenris, Isabela, and Anders.

Isabela has some pretty hilarious lines, and Fenris & Anders just ADORE hacking eachother into tiny little pieces. Isabela is all like "Oh slave.s Yeah. Whatevz." and "Oh Magez. Yeah. They cool.". She brings the balance and the sexy back.

Isabela, Fenris, & Anders = Team Cold War.

Isabela is like camp david. She's all neutral and in love.
