I'm a bit ticked there wasn't a better "breadcrumb" to make you go back to the Hanged Man post-Tranquility to trigger the Isabella event.  Companion quests don't flag on the map, so I never noticed it when Varric wanted to talk to me a 2nd time.....which meant I never went back to the Hanged Man....which meant I missed out on a conversation with Varric (minor, have Friend status with him anyways) but also missed out on recruiting Isabella COMPLETELY (seriously annoying).

I really feel like Isabella should have been like Anders....literally impossible to miss encountering as you do the main quest.  Not that I planned to romance the lusty pirate wench or anything, but I did want to experiment with a dagger rogue in place of Varric occasionally.

Oh well, guess it's me and Varric to the end.  I suppose it makes sense....he IS telling my story after all.  :P

Yea, same thing happened to me, they really need to make her a part of the main plot or at least give you a hint that she is there at that time(maybe a letter?).

Dragon Age 2 seems to reward exploration a lot. You can mostly find something everytime you visit a location again in a different act. Companions worked kind of the same way.

I kind of liked it honestly. They didn't feel forced on you as much. I guess they could make it a side quest though, where she sends you a letter asking for your help and that she'll be waiting in The Hanged Man.

I think it would just be kinda silly if you got forced into meeting her via a quest. Some others like Fenris were part of a quest but not one where you expected to meet them and others like Merrill were there to accompany you on a quest and later joined you. I think the party member meetings were handled pretty well where just like in life you run into people and they become your friends later on. You just have to make sure you take your time and explore instead of just running from plot point to plot point.

That's just IT though.  I did every single quest I thought existed pre-Deep Roads.  There were no quest flags on the main map, either in or outside Kirkwall.  I then got the letter that starts the quest which essentially bails you out if you spent too much money to be able to afford the 50g required to start Deep Roads.  There was NEVER a suggestion to return to the Hanged Man, other than Varric's convo "quest" which doesn't flag on the map (oversight by Bioware, imo).

I totally agree with the original poster. I almost missed her in my 1st game and that is when I had been looking for her all over the place because I had planned to have her in my party. For such a major character there needed to at least be a journal entry about her existence and I thought there was one in one of the demos but to my knowledge there was no quest to make sure you knew she had suddenly popped into the hanged man.

And I agree with the OP. If DA2 rewards exploring then they need to use different maps so you want to explore and not the same maps with sections turned off. The more I play the more that really annoys me! :) I would love to have a patch that would fix that. Add new maps for the old locations.

I missed her too, I didn't start my second play so it's pain to read spoilers about her.

Ur loss I guess.

It's not the game's fault if you missed her. I got her on my very first playthrough, and I wasn't even trying. I just walked into the Hanged Man at one point after getting Anders and there she was kicking Lucky's ****.

Wait, if you miss recruiting her what happens with the Arishok and Qunari?

I frequently returned to companions' homes because I kept hoping there would be some dialogue available, so I stumbled on her when checking to see if Varric had something to say.

Right.  You randomly went to the Hanged Man for no reason, and therefore found her.

I had been to the Hanged Man before.  There was nothing suggesting that I should go there after the Anders quest (other than the Varric quest, which as I said has no map flag).

It's all fine and good to say "It's not the game's fault".  I realize not all content is meant to be seen unless you actively go looking to find it.  But for fark's sake, name me a single character in Dragon's Age: Origins that you had to TRY to find.  You came across all of them naturally by following the main plot.  I had a friend who failed to free Sten before Loathering burned and therefore didn't get him...he was mildly annoyed, but he at least came across Sten and just chose to ignore the quest to free him until it was too late.

My husband also missed her, but it was because he never completed Tranquility by going back to talk to Anders.

Just get used to looking at your journal and not relying on quest markers on the map. J key is your friend.

I can name you one and she's just as easy to miss as Isabela, Leliana. I missed her on  my first run too, mostly because there was no reason to go to Lothering Tavern(no quests or anything like that). I only found out about it through the DA Wiki.

She did that to me too. I didn't mind thou, I think it was a nice plot twist in my game and I love to fight them all in a balanced fight, than just one guy with Benny Hill theme playing.

Yeah why did you just walk into the hanged man?  I walked into the hanged man at least twice and she wasn't there.  Finally after about the 3rd time she showed up.  So not it is not the original posters fault that he didn't know you have to go back and check numerous times.

I'm surprised so many people missed her. There are a couple of quests that take you back there, not to mention Varric asks to speak with you a couple times. If you missed Isabela you missed so much more.

Was there a journal entry that says go see Isabela in the inn?  I never saw it.  I still found her but not because there was a journal entry and I check it often.

Map flag?
I ran across Issy when looking at my journal to see what i wanted to do next. Under companions was meet Varric at the hanged Man, walked in and fade to cut scene with Issy kickin butt. Why is that so hard to miss?

wow, while I feel for you, it is odd that you never found her. You go to the hanged man to talk to varic at least 2 times (if you check your journal and not just go there to see if he has more to say), you go there to turn in the street cleaning quests, you go there to turn in the pirate/raider/amaranthing spy quest, etc. Anders is the first quest you actually get, if you waited until right before the deep roads I can see how you may have missed her, but that is the first quest you are actually given.

That's strange because I did all the quests in Act 1 including Varric's and I never saw her there.
