DA2 is not a bad game, in fact its a lot of fun it has some great moments and while its much darker and less heroic then ME games (not to mention it kinda fails as a sequel IMO - it fairs much better if you view it as a stand alone game) - its not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. however
I feel that relationships, specifically shifting sexualities were handled clumsily for half the characters. a lot of the things were just waved away, familiar characters were outright rewritten and barely recognizable (but hey - now they evoke stronger emotions in more people, so who cares what minority who liked them just as they were thinks), characters getting annoyed with you just for saying: "I don't think of you that way" when they hit on you out of the blue was very much a "huh" moment, and the fact that you don't get some of the same information when romancing characters based on your hawke's gender worries me. it makes characters inconsistent, it makes me not want to experiment with various relationships and multiple playthroughs. but for others - its perfect because they can pretend that their SIMS are theirs alone :/
and this plus changes to Liara (that ALSO made her more popular, even if she suddenly did a complete 180 in terms of her attitude and general personality) makes me think that character rewrites WILL happen. whether it will also involve sexuality, I don't know. it might - it would after all be the most expedient solution, especially when you can just wave away any prior precedent by simply saying "I just didn't tell you before" to the select hopeful few.
but I really doubt that returning characters will have enough in common with their portrayal in previous games, especially ME1 characters. I hope I'm wrong. I would really hate to see this happen. but I'm fairly sure that its too late to change anything now, whatever it may be.
