As the title says:

In regards to the description of Dispel Magic, what exactly consists of a Hostile Magic Effect?  For example if you look at the long list of Status Effects we have the following:

STAGGERED, Can't Attack, Obscurred, BRITTLE, Paralyzed, Confused, Knockdown, DISORIENTED, Slowed, Dead, and Immobolized.

I typed them exactly as they appear in the game, from top to bottom.  I can understand Knockdown and Dead would obviously not fall under a "Hostile Magic Effect", but as for the other types, which would apply?

I'm using Anders as my main healer/buffer you could say, but I wanted to give him the ability to dispel effects on the rest of the party.  I'm typically stunned or disoriented a lot on my rogue (honestly I'm not sure how to tell the difference in the middle of battle), by specific enemies, and it'd be nice to remove these effects as soon as possible.  With the talent it will also heal that person just a bit, so not to shabby in my opinion.

I only recently started Act 2, so was curious if there was specific ones I should be focused on, or just put as many as I can for his tactics and hope for the best?

Out of curiosity, what are you supposed to target to stop a spell effect? I constantly have cases where some enemy is casting an area of effect spell (weird exploding electric sphere thing, what looks like Hemorrhage), and dropping a dispel magic on top of their spell doesn't do anything what so ever.

Dispel Magic won't remove AoEs. However, it will interrupt creatures who are in the middle of casting a spell.
