Im contemplating siding with the Templars this time....
But I love little ol Anders...can he stick with me if I kill Mages?

I felt sorry for Orsino until he decided attacking his own troops during a victory celebration was an acceptable tactic for defeating the enemy.

I'm surprised he didn't walk around with pants for a hat.

If you side with the Templars Orsino admits to it.

Given the robes, for all we know he might at least wear them as a shirt.

Indeed, that was a complete WTF moment for me, after having a whole statement right before about how mages shouldn't be judged dangerous because of the action of a few, and then he decides it's a great idea to turn into a mega-abomination and attack everyone.  What an idiot (though I feel like one too now, I completely missed that connection between the letter mentioning O and Orsino lol, oh well, I feel pretty good about killing him now :D)

I just want to know his strategy there. Yeah, yeah, he thought he could control it. It's too bloody big to fit out the door. Best case scenario is he's trapped in the room with the Mages. Worst case scenario is he's trapped in the room trying to kill the Mages.

Good job, professor wonderful.

See that's the biggest problem I have this game.
Every mage from Anders to Orsino constantly whines about mage freedom and how mages are just like everyone else and how they're not dangerous.
Then they become abominations, blow up buildings, kill innocents and twirl mustaches.

I don't care about desperation. I don't care about ancient Tevinter evil blood sacrifice rituals to make everyone crazy ape bonkers. It undermines the whole storyline where as soon as you set a mage free they go on a rampage that'd make godzilla blush.

It's no room, it's actually a courtyard - maybe he thought he could climb the gallows :P

He actually doesn't.  He says that something to the effect "Of course I hid him, to let Meredith discover him would confirm everything she suspect about us!"  he never confess to an active participant in the Necromancer's research.

He even says "You know.. upon till this point, I never used Blood Magic." .... except he studied it and is a Blood Mage.  He just never used the actual spells he already knows because lack of need.

I was slightly angry about him helping Quentin out with Necromancy. But I don't blame him. He said himself that it was too dangerous/going to far. Yeah a lot of mages who actually turned to blood magic and went insane or became abominations. But what has to be taken into consideration is that when you put something under enough pressure it will eventually break or burst. Kirkwall Circle was supposed to be the most strict Circle in Thedas. Most of the mages were pushed so hard that they reach a point of desperation where they would possibly do anything to escape situation. When a person is pushed to such a point their mind becomes more fragile. They see no way out so you grasp for anything that could possibly give you hope that is why they turn to Blood Magic because it gives them power to fight back, they know that they are like walking bombs. But since their minds are in a very fragile state they cannot handle the power so either they go crazy or become abominations since they can't resist demons or get overwhelmed by sudden increase in power.

Orision had to deal with this all of his life. He was a good man trying to look for peace. But everyone has darkness inside of them. In the end there was too much pressure for him to handle so he resorted to something he himself said was going too far. A very tragic character just like the whole story. It was very melancholic.

At the end, Orsino *does* say something about how he didn't think Quentin's research was any use, but that now he saw a reason to use it, just before he casts the "Become a Harvester" spell. I remember it clearly during my first "Side with mages" play through.

Also, if you side with the Templars while Bethany is in the Circle, pay close attention to her voice and body language when Orsino tells her the mages must stand together. There are some strong hints that Orsino used a spell to get her to agree; her voice goes a little softer and slower and her stance seems more relaxed.

Yes but once Orsino admits to hiding Quentin (who he helpfully identifies as the man who killed Hawke's mother) then it's pretty damn obvious that the 'O' who was amazed at the research results and lending him Chantry resources for his experiments is Orsino.

What I don't get is, how did he turn into a Harvester? Aren't Harvesters Demons and Golems fused together?

There's always Merrill!

Though it's very possible that if the Keeper hadn't stepped in, she too would have become an abomination. But it didn't happen so there's one who remained sane, unpossessed, and good throughout the game.

And Bethany if she lived.

There was nothing fundamentaly evil or wrong about Orsino's personality or character, that's just bad story telling imo. We've just defeated a spirited attack by a squad of Templars then all of a sudden he's a hulking mass of monster.

It was so cartoony, weird storytelling decision by Bioware.

This is why I think Mass Effect is their best work to date, you actually make critical decision that alter how the game ends, and you get to talk even "boss" characters out of doing stupid things.

Merril sometimes seems as the exception that proves the rule, in that the DARK and EVIL surrounds her rather than consumes her.
The Hawke family seem genetically immune to evil possessions and such. Malcolm Hawke was apparently a saint despite growing up in the Circle over the Hellmouth.

He was calpable up to a point (helping his research with Circle resources), but to suggest that he somehow was an accomplice to Quintin's depravities is off the mark.

To me I felt Hawke bears the brunt for what happend to Leandra. Hawke knows how sleazy Kirkwall's underbelly is, he should have had his mother guarded every time she went out.
