Ok, so I loved Morrigan but I can safely say I have fallen head over heels for the lovely IsabelaIt is even better that I am a woman yet she still would
Ok..that's not saying much as she would go with most things with a pulse. Does anybody else allow the Captain to hold this amount of enchantment (no, Sandal!!) over them? She is HOT!
Isabela is definately my favorite romance and character in general
I always feel wrong romancing merril, yet to go through with it just because she seems really young

As far as comparing her to Morrigan, I dunno. I loved Morrigan from the start and romanced her on my first playthrough of DA:O as well. She seems more comparible to Fenris than Isabella, but that's just my first impressions. Still haven't beat DA2 yet... or... DA:O for that matter. >.>

Isabela is just beneath notice. She's the single most boring and nearly invisible character in whole DA2. Save maybe Carver when he dies right off the bat. Seriously, she's just a air-filled doll. She has no personality to speak of, and there doesn't seem to be anything giving even a glint of intellect in her head.
She's the caricature of the promiscuous airhead, her only interests in life seems to be getting laid, getting money and making superficial comment.
I find myself amazed how some people judge a character after, apparently, hearing just a couple of banters.
She is actually pretty deep if you bother to look below the surface. For example, her sexual behavior is in fact a defense mechanism caused by traumatic experiences with her former husband and another man she loved.
She is also very inteligent, just hear to her discussions with Anders about freedom.
Yeah, I'm sure those would be slaves she freed gave her a lot of coin.getting money

Some hilarious dialogue too, "I like big boats, I cannot lie" had me ROFLing.

I find myself amazed how so many people imagine that if anyone has a different opinion, it's because he's uninformed.MisterJB wrote...

I tried to romance Isabela, and I kept her in my party non-stop from most of the game.
I waited for nearly two whole acts for her to show anything but sexual superficiality and predictable boringness.
I stand by my perception that she's uninteresting and bland, and about as thoughtful as a flower pot.

And as for Morrigan, I am the opposite of most. My first playthrough I started off loving her... totally infatuated, and as the relationship and overall story of Origins went on, she soured on me. I thought, what with her claiming she feels things for me, human emotions she's not gotten to experience before, that she was learning to have a little more sympathy. But she's still just too cold. I really feel like you never really get to break through to her completely. Her mission is more important to her than anything, and she has little empathy for anyone at all.
Don't get me wrong, Morrigan is a great character, and I do enjoy her.

It's not a matter of personal opinions, it's about facts. You have all the right to dislike Isabela's character and personality but don't say that she doesn't have one.
If I say "Personally, I dislike Merrill, she is only in the game to sound cute and there's nothing else to her.", I would be wrong because there are other aspects to her personality. Like for example, her wilingness to save her people even at the cost of her place among them.
Likewise, you can't claim that Isabela is a brainless bimbo and when someone proves you wrong simply say: "I can't be proven wrong, this is my opinion."

It was even my very point : it's not really that I dislike Isabela's character, it's mainly that I dislike her lack of being anything but a flowerpot with sexual graffiti written all over it.

Have you Romanced her all the way until the end? She does reveal why she is the way she is.

Except for the fact I am a early thirties, happily married (almost) female..nerdy and horny, though yes. All what I think of her aside, I do actually think she is a cool character to have at Hawke's side though. I see the depth there and I like hhow she is written. Plus she did actually surprise me

I only talk about the peer group: there are always some exeptions... just have to think of the way bioware advertised dragon age 2 by presenting isabela to be a chick you could get to know better.

Unfortunately her Questioning Belief quest glitched and doesn't actually start until after she has left my party for good, so she is not in act 3 for me at all.

She goes just fine with an assassin-turned-nun and arrogant misanthropic witch.
