I see that there is no lockpicking specialization available in Dragon Age II which would of been nice. The Offical Guide mentions finding items that will boost lockpicking and trap disarming skills but I have found no mention of these items or where to find them in the Guide or the game. If anyone has some insight on this subject, the info would be greatly appreciated.

I am playing a Rogue and have encounted several chests that I cannot open due to insufficient lockpicking skills.

I think 40 cunning will unlock or disarm anything. I haven't come across any gear that I can remeber that boosts unlocking. I am using Isabel for it so maybe Hawke gets some gear.

lock picking is related to your Cunning rating.

40 for master. Same applies for detecting and disarming traps as well. And apparently the various items simply lower the tier by one. So for example with a singe ring that helps with both traps and lockpicking, your cunning only needs to be 30 for master, 20 for complex, etc. With 2 such items, a cunning of 20 will be enough for anything.
Personally I just upgrade to 30 cun ASAP, and then stock the rest on dex until I find my first master lock, then just respec then and there for 40 cun. Some people might prefer to carry those boosting items with them but for me that's way too much trouble as I just rapidfire sell all the extra whenever I'm in town.
