I love DA:O and DA2, i would have much prefered if DA2 did follow after origins as i loved the story to that. Having a different story line works i suppose as i am enjoying my playthrough, The idea of playing as other heros does work, but its more of an expantion that a full game imo.

I enjoyed Dragon Age II and I really liked my companions in DAII.
So I don't want to go back to Origin. I want to continue the path with our companions
and few from Origin. Origin is great, but DA2 is a great game too. It has it flaws,
but I want to see more of Merrill and Hawke. Varric is amazing too as I would
love to see more of him as well.

So I completely and absolutely disagree with OP.

^ Edit: I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding here. I believe the OP wants the origin stories to return for the next DA game, not necessarily the Warden and his/her companions as the main characters. I guess the chance of any characters from the first or second game reappearing in DA3 for anything but brief cameos is pretty low anyway, since Dragon Age is a series in which each game tells a completely different story.

I think the reason they only made one playable race this time is because they're data showed that most people played and finished the human noble origin way more than any other. Logically, why would they want to spend resources on something "few" people play? In that aspect maybe 6 origins was too much. Maybe if they had one origin for each race: human from Lothering, dalish elf from Merril's clan, merchant dwarf who roamed Fereldan.

I really hope the origin stories return for the next DA game, and your suggestion sounds pretty reasonable. I think three or maybe four well-written origins would be more than enough.

Dragon Age without the "Origins" is just another RPG imo. I'm not sure why there were not two, three, or even four different Hawke Family Origins in Dragon Age 2, even if they would all be Human Origins it would have given that game the True Signature of the Franchise. Can you Imagine starting out, Not at the outskirts of Lothering running from Dark spawn but at Ostagar being betrayed by Logian ( I really enjoyed killing that fool) or perhaps your Mage character doesnt have to be an apostate, but instead a Circle mage who's journey starts after the debacle at Ostagar and instead of rejoining the circle you go back "home" to rescue your family. After all, the Circle would just assume you died along with everyone else no? or Maybe your an apostate living in the wilds only coming home AFTER you hear of what had happened at Ostagar. Point being I think not having Origins in the game took away from the mian thing that seperated the franchise from most RPGs. Please bring it back for DA 3

Errrm, because if you haven't noticed, DRAGON AGE II IS NOT DRAGON AGE ORIGINS!!!
People really need to get over the Origins thing. It was nice, but it is finished. Move on!

So if I understand correctly what you guys wanted is.

DA: O OH LOOK A BLIGHT.

If they made DAII into an Origins game : OH LOOK ANOTHER BLIGHT.

DAIII OH LOOK ANOTHER BLIGHT and final ending of the DA franchise : /

After all two ancient gods remain but it would be stupid to want an origins, it would just deliver us the same story over and over again. The Origins only served one thing, the creation of your warden.
