Well Origins also had alot of registered content. It was that kind of game. However it skyrocketed with DA2. My registered content list for DA2 is huge. ME2 had the Dr Pepper promo items so its certainly something there is the potential to carry on as there is proven success.

I really dont want a similar list happening with ME3 but I can see the appeal as why they do it. Just please not to to that extent!!

it's a success with mass effect 2, why not?

dragon age origins has more dlc than ME2.

Because ME2 is not the end of Shepard story, and it's a package of subquest for 80% of the play time.
ME2 is perfect to put different kind of DLC.

ME3 is supposed to be the last chapter for Shepard.... making post mission DLC would be strange, but if they make DLC, i hope it will make the game longer.... i'm sure the writers left some open door here and there.

Compare DA2 DLC to ME2 DLC could be an insult.
ME2 have lot of good DLC (SB, Overlord, Kasumi), they all show new environement (new texture etc) that can be seen only there, better level building.
DA2 DLC are like "rabbit crap", lot of unusefull item that go to the trash bin when you reach level 5... and don't make me start about the black emporium and robin hood prince.... they are clearly cuted from the game to make more $.
(i sincerly hope the next DA2 DLC will be as good and intresting as ME2 mission DLC)

If ME3 want to go DLC crazy, at least i hope they will be valuable.

I read an interview not long ago of someone important at EA talking about Kotor online and the futur of EA, about fully digital company with micro transaction (micro transaction are not (yet?) in Kotor MMO).
I think it's clear, that EA wants DLC to be used (overused?) for their product.

Before ME3, i dont mind to make the wait shorter...but once ME3 is out i dont want more DLC. ME3 must include ALL the missions inside, dont mind if 4 cds are necessary

Yeah, you're setting yourself up for a disappointment there. DLC is way too good a concept for companies for them not to do it (they get more money out of the product, people don't trade the game in etc.)

+ The obvious, budgeting 101 part. Content only gets made if they expect to get their money + profit back. The "amount of cds"  (well, dvds and blu-rays, to be accurate) isn't going to be a (major) limiting factor, anyway, cost and expected profit are.

edit: added a ")" to not freak programmers out. :P

this is the last GAME with shepard's story, meaning that no other game will feature shepard. having dlc missions not unlike Overlord, LotSB and Arrival after the battle for the milky way would certainly please me, and the fans.

cry all you want, but that, fortunately, will be happening.

EA Rep: Pre-Order Mass Effect 3 Saviour Edition and you get access to Day 1 DLC as well as Temp Missions where Tali and Garrus will join you for a few non-plot important Missions outside of their Cameo's!

Meh, I could care less. I'll more than likely end up buying it all anyways. I'm a sucker for DLC.. if there is available content, I feel like I'm missing out on the full experience if I don't get it. Sounds lame, I know.. but I'm also an impulse buyer so it kind of goes hand in hand. I would much prefer the DLC to be released well after launch so we can all experience the game in its vanilla form equally, but that probably won't be the case. Just make the DLC more appealing with more content, and I'm sure most of the fans won't mind spending $6.99 to experience it. Just my 2 cents.

Countless exclusive pre-order bonuses with all your major conflicting online retailers and DLC included on release that could (should) have been included on disk anyway, yep.

Really, plan ahead Bioware with the DLC. Nobody likes tacked on missions with mute squadmates and a playtime of only an hour. Record the dialogue in advance.

I don't play the dragon age games, but I can see your point, that amount of DLC (unless it was story missions!) would just be waaaaaay over the top.  I was looking at that list pressing the down arrow thinking again and again "yeah, any time now"

In the way of going DLC crazy, I'd hate a load of first day DLC, I like to play the game, only the game, and just the game, with no DLC, at least once, Zaeed (and everything else DLC wise) had to wait to be downloaded until after overlord had come out.  I also think first day DLC can, only can, sometimes be a tad rushed to get a load out on release day.

Personally I'd much rather have less first day DLC, more post release, story, carefully thought out and made DLCs.

I would certainly like a lot of DLC after the release of the game though!  Plenty please!  As for what would happen in the way of the story DLC, well they're bioware, I'm sure they'll think of something, but whether it's during the game, or after, I'd love plenty of story DLC.  In my opinion, it would be a good way to continue mass effect with gaming after ME3 is done.

Of course. They wouldn't want to sell the whole game for only 60 bucks, when they can cut out stuff and offer it as an incentive/sell later. It's the new ****ing age, Press A Button And Something Awesome Happens is gonna be the first DLC for only 10 bucks.

Bahaha! Dunno why, that just made me burst out laughing.

But yeah I hope the DLC is reasonable for ME3.

I don't understand why that really matters. You seem to think a story is only good if it tops the previous story in size and "epicness". Overlord and Shadow Broker were nothing compared to the Collectors wiping out entire colonies, but I dare say they were much better stories than the main game.

The galaxy wasn't under threat of galactic extinction when the collectors were abducting colonists :P

And if you re-read what I wrote, you'll see that your above hypothesis isn't accurate. I'm all for DLC to make my gaming experience all that much better. As the gamer, I don't mind if there's extra ME3 DLC thrown in that doesn't directly relate to fending off a reaper invasion, but the case-in-point that you missed was that the example I gave, for Shepard, it would seem like a much more minor problem in the face of a reaper culling.

Hope that explained it better. ^_^

Also, Shadow Broker was [seemingly] meant to be played after the suicide mission, so the collector issue wasn't really an issue anymore. But I agree, LotSB story was great!

day 1 and gear type DLCs feels like a blatant rip-off to me, considering that we got that for free from devs/modders in the past. mini-expansions a few months later though ... bring it! (lotsb)

Ah, but with ME3 they haven't got a limited time (till the next ME game release) to do DLC, and if it continues following the pattern of more DLC each game.....................

Let's not forget that Bioware insisted that they would provide a commercial success.
This means the game will cost money, have stunted features, and have bazillions of DLC ready and waiting. Remember, ME3 was playable in december. I expect all this time is to develop the DLC ahead of time, put a price tag on it, and be ready to sell it. Expect to spend around 100 or more bucks just to get all the dlc and the game itself.

I am not against this, so long as the content is worth it. If it becomes stupidly expensive just to have a pair of sunglasses for Blaso (who does not have eyes) , I will be pissed.
