To be honest, I think the sacred ashes adventure was a poor quality adventure they'd be more willing to retcon. At the time, maybe that was supposed to be a classic "Good vs. Evil" choice, but as you can see they are getting away from that. (There was really no good motivation to defile the ashes other than to "be a dick", it wasn't like the more nuanced choices in the other quests where you might have supported control of the golems or consider the elves the "evil party" involved. This particular adventure just had the warden defile the ashes just to be a jerk--maybe to get the reaver spec, but that seemed pretty false to me. That particular one I felt was the weakest of all the adventures).

I thought you destroy it for power.  Power that a Dragon Cult can grant you?  (Which case ended up being Reaver Speciality).

Just like there is no real reason to side with the Demon in the Fade and give her conner.  You do it for power (or if you are just a mean person).

Was there this many people upset when BG2 retconned stuff from the first game?

Dunno.  That was so long ago I don't even know if I played BG or BG2.  Nor do I remember anything about them.  Since I usually remember SOMEthing about things I liked, I assume I either didn't play them, or didn't like them.

Yes, I blaspheme.  Such is life.

To all those that are defecating bricks over this issue:

What do you propose to do about it? and how much are you willing to pay bioware to implement your solution?

Me: nothing

Or you want a tumble with the demon.
I honestly can't think of anything more detestably evil in the game than allowing an innocent boy to be possesed by a demon for sex.

I can think of plenty of reasons to defile the ashes, though.  First of all, if you're Dalish, you may want to NOT strengthen the chantry in any way whatsoever.  If you're dwarven, you may not care about the ashes, but you want to get out of there as peacefully as possible, perhaps even recruit the dragon cult.  A mage could have the same motivations as a Dalish, really; they see the potential for the ashes making the chantry's hold on the nation even stronger with that type of icon and already know the evil the chantry has brought them.

Those are two off the top of my head.

Oh, I didn't know the Leliana cameo occured even if she 'died' during the SA quest.  I'm not too sad, as she's my fave DA:O character and this will increase her chances of appearing in the next DA game.

Well that demon is quite honest. Let her have the boy and she gives you whatever you want.. perverse or otherwise.
Poor Connor on the other hand gets to be an abomination. Bad Warden! Bad!

No see you're getting something practical in return that overall makes you stronger and helps you fight the Archdemon and save the world.
My way is significantly more rotten.

I did it by threatening to kill her. So if you want to get technical, I raped a demon. I'm not quite sure what the moral implications of that are.

I killed Leliana in DA1, whats the point of importing my save when the continuity isn't secured?

And this is just one of the examples.

So Bioware, if you decide everything at your own anyway, don't create an import option, because then player won't have wrong hopes for the continuity<_<

Because despite everyone (including Bioware) saying "There is no canon" over and over again, the fact is that there is canon. Some of your choices simply don't matter.

You hardened Leliana? Doesn't matter, she still goes back to the Chantry.

You went adventuring with Leliana in the epilogue? Doesn't matter, because she is now in Orlais and the Free Marches while the Warden is not.

You killed Leliana? Doesn't matter because she is alive and well.

because BioWares BIGGEST selling point..."CHOICE"...is trite and a sham. They totally ignore your "choice" and do whatever the hell they feel like.

Which I'd be fine with...if they didn't use "choice" as a selling point and argument for how great their games are.

Fact is is they're going to pull this crap they need to not bother with letting us import crap at all. Give us our "choices" in game sure..but don't let us import anything anymore and set up their canon. At least then it doesn't come across as a total arrogant disregard for their customers and fans. If they want that freedom then stfu about "choices" and just stick to canon and keep it consistant. Otherwise. It's a blemish and an insult.

Well, I always make one run where I try to be the vilest most inhumanly foul being the game allows me to be.
I don't even like it that much, but my morbid curiosity is boundless. There should be an achievement for it!

Ya'll do remember that DA2 spans nearly a full decade in time, right? As such, people change.

Sure, when we last see Leliana in DAO, she might be hardened and veering away from the Chantry. But things can — and often do — change as the years go by. At some point, Leliana must have gone back to the Chantry, perhaps at the Divine's request. Perhaps she did spend several years with the Warden, fighting darkspawn remnants, but afterward their lives went separate ways. *shrug* Who knows? Folks get divorced in real life a lot; something akin to that might have happend in the DA universe between your Warden and Leliana.
