What I get from browsing the walkthroughs is 2 Hawke specific tomes and 1 extra for mages and physical classes that can be used on anyone. Did I miss something? I remember somebody mention having almost 30 skillpoints before level 20, but I have a hard time believing it.

Don't forget the Elixir of Heroism which gives you an extra level and the Tome of Technique from the Emporium. Thats 5 extra talents in total from start to finish.

Thanks.

So the black emporium has a tome in addition to the elixirs? I'll have to take a second look then.

you can always hope for the glitch i got with the respec potion. I got my talent points back, but it didn't erase any of my entropy talents. It had put my new talents in the hot keys so I didn't notice for quite a few hours of game play. Doesn't effect my game much since I just don;t put them on my hotbar, but still a stupid glitch. And there are apparently other ones with that potion. It also screwed me out of 2 attribute points,, ones I had got from a book previously but ah well.

How do we get the elixir of heroism? I got it on my first playthrough but not on my second for some reason..... and I think the key to the respec glitch is having those spells on your tactics.

I would add to AreleX's excellent list above the bonuses you can get from the fade

(1) solve both barrel puzzles and read the book for +4 attributes

(2) make deal with demon for your choice of (a) +1 talent/spell; (B) +6 attribute points; or © 2 magic resistance runes

And reading any of the evil tomes gives you a Tome of the Mortal Vessel providing +2 attributes.

You get Elixir of Heroism recipe in Act 2, right before you meet up with Orsino after the Qunari attack. Its on a corpse around the corner before the plaza on a corpse.

You only get stats the first tome you read. Honestly, its not worth it. Killing Xebenkeck is so much better, not only for the extra XP but for the sweet Blood Mage staff she drops. If you're not a mage or even a BM, give it to Merrill, it is that good, probably second best to Cold-Blooded.

*In case anyone is wondering, you must destroy all 4 (or is it 5?) tomes in the Forbidden Knowledge quest to fight Xebenkeck. Its a pretty hard fight, bring some fire resist.

i screwed up the Evil Tomes quest during this first playthrough because I took the first book.

However, if I understand correctly, if you destroy the first 4 tomes, you can read the fifth and get the +2 stats as well as fight Xerkenberk for the blood magic staff.

I "took" the first two tomes which instantly transformed into worthless junk in my inventory.

Then I discovered a third tome in a cave in the Wounded Coast, I chose to read it and got +2 stats.

I didn't find the other two and moved on to Act 3.

I think you can get stats by reading the Fel Grimoire. You still fight Xebenkeck and you still complete the quest, the bonus is you get the stats too.

The third one I found was in a cave in the Wounded Coast and it gave me +2 stats.

Taking the tomes allows you to sell them for 81s a pop.  Reading the tome gives you +2 stats.  If you take or read any except the Fel Grimoire, you cannot complete the quest.

I checked the emporium again and I just can't find a tome. Everything else in here is true and sums up to:

2 Tomes of Technique
1 Elixir of Physical Technique
1 Elixir of Arcane Technique
1 Elixir of Heroism
1 Talent Point in the Fade

That's indeed 5 potential points for Hawke, so was the tome part just a slip?
