DAOrigins.exe still crashes with an exception code c0000005. Very frustrating here, bought the game two weeks ago and have as of yet been able to get the game to startup.

Running Vista x64 on a Intel QuadCore 2.8ghz, 8gb RAM, GTX295 (running nvidia 195 drivers)

Ahh well, back to killin' zombies.

I think you are missing the point. The patch fixes the things it claims to fix on games that are already running but with certain gameplay issues and visual issues.
It has not claimed to fix any startup issues which are always going to be system specific ( as in the game is not broken, your system has issue with it )
I don't expect anything to change on that front until the much larger 1.2 patch.

edit:

So, what is an access violation, a C0000005? This
is the translated #GP code the fault handler raises, which the
operating system displays as an 'Access Violation', whos numerical form
is c thousand 5. Its the operating system telling you that a program
has malfunctioned and tried to reference no mans land. It has nothing
specific to do with any particular program, or a brand of software,
this is straight from the CPU and kernel of the operating system.

So it seems that the game is trying to gain access to an address that your CPU is refusing or unable to give access to.

As I said, system specific and not a generic game fault.

Run the game on only one core, as opposed to 4. That fixed the random CTDs for me on my Athlon64 X2 6000+ (Of course, in my case it was 2 cores, not 4). I can play it for hours on end, with no crashes whatsoever.

Awesome, of all the tinkering 'n stuff I've done to try and get DAO to run, I neglected to try to set the app's processor "affinity" to one 1. I'll try that and report back. Thanks Tizzy.

No, drone, I think you're missing the point. I am a hardcore gamer, and professional software developer (28 years worth). Its NOT my system. My start menu reads like the Whats New page on IGN. In other words, I buy/play most of the newer titles.

NONE OF THESE OTHER TITLES REFUSE TO EXECUTE. The fact there are issues across alllllllllllllllllllllll platforms clearly indicates a screwed up code base. And just using these forums as an indicator, more people have problems than not with varying degrees of severity (from app crashes to content bugs).

Why does L4D2 run smooth as glass? Why does Modern Warfare 2 run smooth as glass? Yeah, on this score, you're right, its my system.. Bahahahaha!

No dice on setting processor affinity, FYI. It took a little longer to crash (about 2 seconds) but it crashes with the same error.

Are you overclocking your computer?

Thanks for the insult. I'd have thought with 28 years of programming experience you'd know what an access violation is and more importantly understand why it's happenning. What were you programming? Washing machines?
Also at your age I'd have thought you may have more respect for those who are genuinely trying to help you. But then in my 45 years of human obsevance I've learned to not be surprised any more.

The game runs like glass on my system. Ergo the game works.

No, I refuse to overclock my system as I live in the desert (Phoenix). Overclockers in this climate are just plain insane!

If you are going to try to claim expertise, at leats make it look reasonable.

These two staments are contradictions:

professional software developer (28 years worth)

NONE OF THESE OTHER TITLES REFUSE TO EXECUTE.

This is the excuse of a neophyte to computers.  Every professional coder knows that all code bases are different., and that even well written code can sometimes fail on particular combinations of hardware.

The game has a problem with your particular setup.  This is a bug.  It could be the fault of the game, or it could be the fault of something on your computer.  Either way, either they will find the bug in time and fix it, or they will find the cause of the system conflict, and implment a work around in their code or get the driver manufacturer to do it.

Other people are expierincing the same types of issues as you are, so I'd expect to see a fix in the first major patch.

Forums are a ****** poor indication of the overall performance and reception of a game.  Its generally accepted that less than 25% of a games players ever visit the official forums.  And of those that do, the negatives tend todrown out the positives.

I run Windows Vista 64 on a Phenom Quad Core.  Game runs perfect for me and I havent even had to deal with the DLC issues which seem to be fairly common too.

So step back and get a  grip.  Your arrogant and antagonistic attitude to those offering support is going to get you no where.

You little flamewar nerds need to get jobs, seriously....

I am seeing people here interested in your problem...and want to see it taken care of...

Yet you are treating all these people like jerks.  I have found their answers reasonable and honest...

Yet, you strike at them like they have just kicked your dog.

If you do not want people to reply to ANYTHING you ask... EVER... simply don't post it.  Don't ask questions you can't handle answers to.

Nyah-nyah - you don't know how to setup your computer to play Dragon Age - ergo your mojo is weak! Nyah-nyah!
