If the Qunari invade then the mages win their own war for freedom because they are needed. And considering the Qunari could take Tevinter if they wanted to but choose not to, Thedosians are in no place to try and weasel their way out of it.

Just because Fenris says it doesn't make it true.  He also called Bethany a viper in my midst.

I imagine it is true though, considering he spent time in Seheron. Especially since the Qunari have just been building up their forces, and Sten says that an invasion will happen one day in his lifetime.

And the Qunari have superior technology to every other race in Thedas. They have cannons, high level explosions, and invented the spyglass.

The only reason they didn't just take Kirkwall was because they didn't come to take it. When the Arishok decides to take it, they simply do based on what they have. Which is limited numbers, small support from the elves, a handful of converts, and an extreme sense of duty. They weren't prepared for a war, but they borderline conquered Kirkwall and would have had it not been for Hawke.

And to tie all this into the purpose of this Thread, would the templars following Meredith really have made much of difference, or the templars in general should the Qunari invade Thedas?

The Qunari could never have won in the long-term. They were heavily out numbered and had none of the technology that would give them an edge. If they were not ousted internally, they would've been crushed when the other cities of the Free Marches mobilized to repel them.

Presumably, when they move to invade Thedas for real, they will be much better prepared.

The qunari did not use their mages. Thedas did. If the qunari used magic as well as technology, the ending woul have been very different.

I wonder if they even had magic during the Exalted March that was called on them....

Magic is an inherited genetic trait. If there are Qunari mages now, how could there now always have been some? The Qun itself seems to mention magic so they must have known of it.

Yea I know it's a genetic trait. I just guess that if they did have mages, they make sure that they focus on only a few spells because of their fear of mages.

I wonder what the Qun specifically says about magic and mages and if the Qunari are reading too much into it and misinterpreting it.

I think Qunari mages are just fewer in numbers and weaker then human/elven mages in other countries of Thedas. Besides, being chained and with sewed lips - this can only weaken one's ability to cast spells.

Brother Genitivi notes the Qunari brought their own mages - the saarebas - but that they weren't as efficient as the Circle mages:

"The greatest advantage that the Chantry-led forces had against the Qunari was, in fact, the Circle of Magi. For all their technology, the Qunari appeared to harbor a great hatred for all things magical. They possessed mages, but these were little better than animals kept on leashes… and none of the Qunari mages possessed anywhere near the skill that the Circle’s mages had. Faced with cannons, the Chantry responded with lightning and balls of fire and it proved effective indeed."

That's a good question. We do know it has that line about "mages know magic like a drowning man knows the sea" but we don't know what, if anything it says further about mages.

Meredith would not be as vigilant if it wasnt for her sister that was a mage and her killing all of her family and friends and allmost killing meredith. Dam abominations ruining it for all us mages.

Vigilant is too nice a word for it.  How about paranoid delusional?  :)

Hateful zealot came to mind too, but I get tired of heaping derision on a digital character who wasn't even written that well.  We should have had enough story to explain her character's metamorphosis rather than a silly lyrium idol.

If I were to make a Mass Effect 2 style presentation of DA2 characters, it would be something like this:

Meredith: "The incompetent"
Elthina: "The useless"
Orsino: "The lunatic"
Anders: "The insane"
Hawke: "the lazy"

And we're meant to feel this game is the rise to power of Hawke, the Champion of Kirkwall.

Can you be a Champion of Fail?

Hawke does indeed walk into it.

The Landsmeet for a human noble was much more of a rise to power.

Referring to what?  The Qunari mages?  I don't think that's an issue of gameplay.  I actually agree with IanPolaris that something happened in qunari history to make them hate mages with such fervor.  Given how viciously saarebas are subdued, it's easy enough to imagine that those mages in general are weaker than their non-qunari counterparts.

I suggest swapping Orsino's "The Lunatic" for "The Unintelligent".
