Samson in Act 3 put it well, "Mages may talk about freedoms choice, but back them into a corner and they've got options the rest of us don't. Haven't seen one NOT take them."
Granted, reverse the group to the templars and I say "Granting any group of people almost complete power over another group gives the former one privileges the latter may despise. Haven't seen anyone within the first group not take advantage of them."
And yes, I know there are good templars who don't, but there are good mages who don't resort to blood magic either. Same principle applies to both though.
Siding with the Templars is fine, but siding with Meredith isn`t
