No clue about skin color honestly, especially since the guide calls them "bronze-skinned giants" next to the image of a very pale Qunari. A ridiculously pale bronze maybe?

Sten is a special offshoot of Qunari that are born hornless. They are sent on special missions across Thedas because they can more easily blend in with the local populace then regular Qunari.

so the loser merchant in Awakening was a "special" Qunari who's important mission was to live in a cave and sell garbge equipment to darkspawn?...

You never talked to Sten, did you?...

Poor Sten is still in that cage then?

As in, he will tell you he was there to learn what a Blight is, not just sell weapons.

I  am not talking about Sten in origins, I am talking about  Amaras the loser merchant in Awakening...

Amaars ,or whatever his name is, is the same kind of Qunari as Sten, but he left the Qun.

Qunari mercenaries are Tal-Vashoth who cut off their horns.

Of course, DAII Tal-Vashoth have horns. In both games, the reason is one of resource management. It's cheaper to use one head mesh.

Ok I just don't remember ever hearing about in in DA:O I'll go back and try to find it then.

I don't think we ever "heard" about it... it's in the codex entry on the Qunari.

You're joking, right.......right?

What codex is this in?

Edit:

"Sten is an atypical qunari as he was born without any horns."

I see this thread has now lost it's point.

Where is that in the DAO codex? or Sten conversation?
As it stands know it just looks like a line added to the wiki after the BW retcon of Qunari

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

So off topic, but I just rofld:

Sten: "There was a child--a fat, slovenly thing--in the last village we passed. I relieved him of these confections. He did not need anymore."
Warden: "You stole cookies from a child?"
Sten: "For his own good."

I'd like to think the Ogres mean something that would say they didn't pull horns out of nowhere.

"bronze-skinned giants" sounds more like a reference to durability, not color. Similar to iron-sknned. :P

No matter how annoying it's getting, unfortunately it does mean what they want it to mean.

Look up "Retroactive Continuity"

Can we just admit that Bioware partly changed the Qunari lore in DA2? The Tal-Vashoth (sp?) mercs in DAO had no horns, but the ones in DA2 did. And why don't the codex entries on the Qunari, in DAO, mention the Qunari having horns as part of the description, that is something humans who met them would notice. In a full-scale invasion, we would see many kinds of Qunari, not just Sten's.

They also changed the appearance of elves. You can't claim that all the elves we saw in DAO were special elves who were heavier, and had different eyes and ears to the elves in DA2, especially since we see some elves who were in the first game.

I like the changes, and it is forgivable in a world with a developed mythos. But retroactive changes were made.

Yeah, I think BioWare just wanted to spice up the Qunari appearance to make it flashier for part 2. Much in the same way that Flemith got a new look. I wholeheartedly approve! :)

They demonized Quanari. I see why, as they are the enemy, though, it was a little silly to make them look they came from the fade or the DA:O Quanari had mated with Darkspawn Ogres.

Ogres are the result of Qunari females (that apparently exist, just never in the games) being turned into broodmothers.

They produce Ogres (imagine the size of them...), Elven broodmothers produce shrieks, human: hurlock, dwarf: genlock.

EDIT: I agree, though, it's silly what they did to them, they already looked pretty unique, instead they gave them these GIGANTIC horns.

Given how Sten and others in his unit were bronze, I didn't think it was something of durability. Not saying it can't be that, just not entirely sure about it hahah.

Just out of curiousity, where did you discover this at? it seems reasonable: was it in a codex?

And if so, then it does not seem unbelievable for Qunari to look as they do as they do resemble ogres in this one.

Also, if the Blight never affected where the Qunari are from, which there is a chance it didn't, since they have no idea what a Blight is, then in a way, Ogres are unnatural, and if it weren't for the damned Qunari, they wouldn't be a problem in the first place. xD  Darkspawn strategy (if they could make one): use Qunari.  Army of Ogres > Archdemon and grunts

Yes, it was in the Broodmother codex in DAO.

Sten, and subsequently, the other Qunari in DA:O, had their horns removed when it was decided that Sten would be a party member. Qunari having horns would have meant all helmets would need yet another model, there'd have to be helmets that the Qunari were restricted to, and could only be used by the Qunari, or the Qunari would be unable to use helmets.

I could just be talking BS, but I believe I read something along these lines several months back, along with the fact that early concepts for the Qunari had them with horns... And a tail.

Ohh.  Never read it.  Too many codexes!  But cool to know. : D Makes sense, too.

So Qunari women are just desire demons? XD
