When there are two Stens and an Avaraad refers to one of them as Sten when talking to another Qunari, how does anyone know who is being referred to?? The whole titles as names tradition has always struck me as a problematic system considering that these war groups of Qunari are bound to have multiple Avaraads, Sarebaas, and Stens. Think about the confusion at a meeting of Arishoks!!

A1: "Greetings Arishok."
A2: "And you Arishok."
A1: "You seen Arishok lately?"
A2:"Nah, you met Arishok here?"
A1: "Hey Arishok, nice to meet you."
A3: "And you Arishok."

P.S. I also recently learned that the name for the actual race is "kossith"- Qunari and Tal Vashoth are kinda like Dalish Elves and City Elves. Both of the former two are kossith and both of the latter two are elves. Fun fact eh? =]

They point alot? :) Or they pick up subtle body language and/or contextual clues?

It doesn't make a lot of sense.

Sten was kidnapped by people of the future inbetween origins and act 1. They cloned him and put stens throughout history. In DA3, the plot takes place in current time (with many timezones availible with time machine) where you have to defeat all the stens through history using medival weapons. (Sten is immune to bullets)

There's only one Arishok, evidentally.

Though I imagine that could happen with others.

Sten: Sten, take these troops to the far ridge.
Sten: ... he's talking to you, Sten.
Sten: No he isn't.
Sten: I'm talking to Sten.
Sten: Go and do as you're told, Sten.
Sten: He meant you, Sten!
Sten: I said Sten!

Sten is a rank. If there are 50 of them present, Unit-Name or specializations would be added. But those would be meaningless to us, so they don't point it out.
Also: There is only one Arishok afaik.

Since it's a title, they'd use the entire title. Like Sten of batallion Basbane of the Beresaad.

I suppose such confusion would explain the incredible efficiency of the qunari armed forces :D

Well the Arishok is kinda like a war-leader/general right? I figure the Qunari people have more than one of those, we just happen to see only one in Kirkwall since it wasn't really an invasion, just a hunting party to find and capture Isabella and return with the Tome of Koslun.

Problem: Aren't there multiple Stens of the same batallion in Kirkwall?
Or are Qunari batallions just really small?

Well apparently the Arishok in game is THE Arishok, of the triumverate and supreme military leader of the Qunari. Hence, only one.
Quite why the military leader of all Qunari can sit on his ass for 4 years is something that doesn't make sense to me but there it is.

Sten of battalion Basbane, of company Kadanwrath, of platoon Anaan  of the Beresaad.

I suppose calling every footsoldier by a twenty-five word name would *also* explain the incredible efficiency of the qunari army

Whoa, really? So if you duel him or fight his party, you just killed the supreme commander of all Qunari forces in Thedas? Damn... Bye bye Llomerryn Accord, Hello Qunari v. Kirkwall. Outcome: Kirkwall gets owned.

Yep. So it is now a setup for THE Sten to become THE Arishok in DA3...

Mark my words. You heard it here first! Unless you didnt, then you heard it elsewhere first.

There will probably some Qunari invasion in DA3 but I doubt the Qunari would focus on Kirkwall.
Besides, the Arishok broke the Llomerryn Accords by attacking first and dies in fair combat.

Arishok: We meet again... Kadan.

Warden: ....!

Note: I doubt very much this will happen, but it would be nice.

That makes a lot of sense actually and would be pretty badass. Hope he grows horns by then though... a hornless Qunari Arishok, now THAT would be embarassing.

Can a Sten talk to each other? That's the question.

Really? Is this on the wiki or something? Would appreciate a link! All I remember from the codex in DA2 is that they're used as ambassadors and such.

No idea but I think every squad has only one Sten.
Sten's group referred to him as "the Sten", and I think every individual group of Qunari you fight in DA2 has one Sten.

i don't think the Qunari will see it that way. The Arishok acted without consulting the other two, so his invasion of Kirkwall was in itself against the Accord and the will of the Qun. And even with him dead, the Qunari continue to exist, they'll just replace him and be done with it. If anything, they might even respect Hawke some more for defeating such a great Warrior/Leader.

But the Arishok specifically says, "You have not seen the last of us Champion/we will be back" or somesuch when you kill him, at least when you Duel him.

He always says this, and this is merely a statement of fact that the nature of the Qun demand that all submit to it's order. The Arishok is disgusted with these foreign lands because the people lack purpose in his eyes.
