The racism is there. Since we don't play as elves this time we just don't experience it first hand.
Several elves are ready to drop everything and rebel the moment the Arishok goes kill-crazy so conditions there can't be great.

In fact the elves who sparked off the whole thing did pretty much the same thing as the city elf warden did in the origin story.

That and the Magistrates orders quest make it clear that people with power can abuse elves with impunity, just like in Denerim.

That's true. Interesting how that event sort of places you on the other side of the situation.
I wonder if that was deliberate, that was my favourite origin.

Huh, I hadn't looked at it like that.

Then again, I always sympathized with those elves; I just didn't like what the Arishok was doing to take advantage of the situation. I really wished for the 'Look, elves, you don't have to submit to the Qun to escape the guards; here's a pouch full of money, I will get you on the next boat out of town and no Aveline, we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.' dialogue option.

It's called Rogue Heart. My favourite theme in the game. I do like the Hawke's Family theme too.

Anyone know if there's an instrumental version of this you can pull from the gamefiles or something?

The rub is that if they got off that boat, they would just face racism in another city or town as long as they were in Andrastan territory, and would probably be enslaved in Tivinter. The Qun might have been a quick refuge from the guard but its also the only place an Elf that doesn't wanted to become a nomad a la Dalish can actually find a permanant escape from 2nd class citizen status
