I don't know if anyone has had this one before, but I came across an obnoxious error today that wouldn't go away.  I tried to play as a Weapon and Shield Warrior and it worked just fine for a  while.  Then, when I was just in Kirkwall before they even let me in the main city, my character started only doing the same stabbing motion over and over when I pressed A.  He didn't do any other normal attacks.  This would have been only annoying and not a big problem, except that he would no longer do even the attacks that close the distance when you are attacking an enemy not in range.  He would just do nothing when I pressed A.  The indicator above an enemies head would still light up to say I could rush at the enemy, but it didn't work when I pressed A.  I tried exiting the game and loading the most recent save and the problem was still there.  I shut down my xbox 360 and loaded again and the problem was still there.  I deleted the file and started from scratch and the problem came back, though a little later.  Going back to a save before it happens would make it disappear, but it always came back fairly quickly. 
Is anyone else having this problem?  I'm kind of assuming that it's something that needs to be patched, but if anyone knows a fix, I'd be happy to hear it.

Deactivate the Shield Defense sustainable ability. This is only a guess, mind you, but when that ability is active, the character only does quick thrusts and keeps their shield up over their head or in a similar position, receiving a penalty to attack while it's active. Deactivate the ability and you may get the other combat tactics you're looking for back. Unless I am misunderstanding your problem, which is possible.

Drussius is right on the money. I thought this was a glitch with Aveline when the demo first came out. You started over for nothing, dude, sorry.

Well, I feel dumb, but thank you for telling me. I never made the connection between that ability and what was happening.
