The reason I loved Mass Effect One so much is because you totally catered to our intellect. There were very very few plot holes, I was not able to find any and that is a good thing.  This is one of the reasons I fell in love with your games is because you choose to explain every single nook and cranny.

However in Mass Effect II there is Jacob's loyalty mission. I won't go into specifics but thermal clips drop and it doesn't make any sense. How can thermal clips drop before the tech was invented?

PLEASE, PLEASE do not turn into hollywood.  PLEASE respect our intelligence and make sure there are no major plot holes like this. I don't want to have to think about problems such as these.

Your game is enjoyed by many "intelligent" people and it's best if you don't insult our intelligence. This will ensure our loyalty to all your future games.

Thanks for reading and please don't make this mistake again.

.... But wait, maybe you'll address this plot hole in ME3? :P ..... Maybe in ME3 you'll explain how thermal clips dropped on jacob's loyalty mission. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. I dont' want to give spoilers.

Please respect our intelligence, that is what separates your games from other average games.

Well, he does raise a point -- albeit a minor one. I think the whole 'thermal clips on jacob's loyalty mission insults our intelligence' thing is going a bit too far, though...

Gameplay does not equal lore. This has been the case since the beginning. There are plot holes in Mass Effect 2, but if this is the biggest problem, I really don't see your point.

If thermal clips didn’t drop on Jacobs loyally mission you would have no ammo for the entire mission. It’s acceptable gameplay and story segregation.

Wait so thermal clips drop in the mission for Jacob and because of that you think Bioware are catering to stupid people? Jeeze I thought I was critical.

i think the reason there are "plot holes" like this is because Bioware is rushing there games now. seriously Bioware its great that we can have a sequel to DA:O in a little over a year but slow down:we can wait
focus on improving not just gameplay but also the lore

Every story ever is going to have plot holes, inconsistencies or retcons.

This is more of a gameplay/story segregation thing anyway and not a real big deal.

Although how cool would it be to just go through that whole level clubbing the natives to death with your Elbow-o'-doom? 'cause technically, their guns shouldn't be able to even damage your new and ten-years-from-their-weapons improved shielding and armor...

Technically I'm pretty sure thermal clips existed prior to being widely adapted. Zaeed mentions them in one of his stories he tells if memory serves and he mentions it was over two years ago, so it's possible that the crew of that ship was just ahead of their time, or equally possible they chose weapons with clips because at the time they were cheaper, less demand means less cost.

Yeah, here we go, it's one of his stories about Jessie, he says it was about five years ago and comments that he doesn't remember ejecting a single thermal clip, so thermal clips are at least five years old, probably longer since Jessie was already a beatup old gun when Zaeed got her.

I think there was supposed to be ammo regen, or "thermal overheat cooldown" if you will in ME2 just like ME1 (it has a variable in the Coalesced.ini), but then they abandoned the idea and the game was launched with a system which makes us dependent on clips.

Seeing thermal clips in Jacob's Loyalty Mission is anachronistic but it's a simple, minor mistake, it doesn't insult our intelligence or anything.

* Go back to the hammerhead

or

* Ammo drone that you can radio to come to you when you need ammo after a fight

or

* a crate of ammo you bring along

or

* have one of the squad bring extra ammo with slower movement speed

The list goes on and on.  It's better to have no plot holes.

Again I point out, thermal clips are at least five year old technology, and in all likelihood even older than that. Who knows how long Zaeed actually had Jessie for, and how old she was when he first got her. Looking at the old girl I'd wager she's at least ten years old. I doubt Zaeed just up and decided to convert her to thermal clips three years before the rest of the galaxy, most likely she came standard that way.

I didn’t say they couldn't have found a work around if they really wanted to but this sort of thing isn't a plot hole. It’s purely a gameplay thing. Like how you only ever take 2 people with you on missions. Working around it would have taken more effort and while it would have been nice, game developers do not have unlimited time and money. If you want to get really nitpicky you could also ask why the mechs from 10 years ago look the same and are all very shinny and new looking . The answer being that they aren’t going to design and create new mech for one mission. Somtimes you just need to let some small things slide otherwise nothing would ever get completed and devs would never be able to tell the story they want to. There is some gameplay and story segregation in every game.

Sounds fun to have to back track just for ammo.

* Ammo drone that you can radio to come to you when you need ammo after a fight

Pointless extra scripting as well as as making another model just for opitional 15 minute long quest.

* a crate of ammo you bring along

Would only make more plot holes, why would you not bring this magical crate on all missions?

* have one of the squad bring extra ammo with slower movement speed

again more pointless scripting for an optional 15 minute long mission.

The list goes on and on.  It's better to have no plot holes.

No actually it's better to have one extremely minor plot hole for one 15 minute optional mission then to have them waste time on scripts and models to alter core game play for some thing so minor.  There where plot holes plenty more serious then this one in ME 1.

You know what would have been great?

NO DAMN EXPLANATION AT ALL FROM THERMAL CLIPS!
